FS: 75 AGA tank, stand and light

Scott, the Bed pan thing isn't to far off... I sell Brick, Tile and Fireplaces for a living (that'll make you cry). Since I have built all my comupters and upgraded other peoples and such since I was 12, I have the "unofficial" experience. I have also picked up some software experience along the way. The problem is that my employer loves to use this knowledge whenever he feels like it, and I have saved him a boat load of money, yet he sat me down 3.5 years ago and said he wanted me to be a comission based SALES person. We all know that market did well until this past year. This year I will be taking a very substancial pay cut. MY happiness level is in the tank... literally. I used to enjoy working with the people... Now I hate my employer. My wife finally upgraded her job to the point that I could go back to school if I wanted, thats why I asked.

I think Bryan made a good point, I would count your blessings while you have them Nellie. I have heard the 4 year degree minimum more than once. I have a relative that is in the same boat, he has stated that if his company were to replace him, he would be required to have a 4 year degree and more. But since he's been there for like 25 years, he's grandfathered in.

I tried the 4 year college... 12 years ago, I got so frustrated sitting in phycology and humanities classes when I was there for computers. I even spent a whole semister sitting in a class listening to a teacher ramble on about the "tirbal village" that he did his 3 year study with.

When I looked into the MSCE, I was looking at it with NO other credentials. Out of the box, they were quoting me 10K and 18-24 months, but it could be pushed thru a little faster. For that $ amount, I almost could have gone back for the 4year.

Not to be completly off topic, I would drill this tank, and build the overflow for 40$ plus materials... say 75$ total or less... if anyone is interested...

Jason check out Phoenix University in Appleton their 4 year degrees for computers are closer to a tech college curriculum then say UWGB.

Quite honestly I have 2 Associates degrees, network + cert, Dell repair cert and warranty cert. If I get kicked to the curb again in another budget cut I'm getting out of the industry for good. I am at the top of the wage chain for what I do the only way for me to make more money or the same money and stay in the game is to go back to school and learn another aspect of the field. Then I have to pray that I meet someone who is willing to give me a chance in my new role.

The medical field has been very strong for a very long time. IT ramped fast then fizzled. Too bad because computers (hardware and software) are a very interesting field. I myself spend hundreds if not thousands of hours learning new hardware and software skills that don't directly translate into $$$.

Sorry esky, I'd buy it from ya if my roadmap had a tank that big in my future.

How about a degree in computers with a focus on medical-industry applications.

I went back to take some programming classes at the Tech after I graduated with my Bachelor's (BS-Total) from UWO in English. Why am I working in Distribution? Hey, pays the bills and has decent job security!

I still haven't finished college.....yet I was a Business major(MIS) for 4 years, then switched to education for 2, and now I'm going back to UWO to finish my business degree this January since I only have 2 semesters left until I graduate.

I caught wind that the manufacturer whom I work for may be closing it's doors this January. Therefore I had been applying for a lot of IT jobs over the past 6 months. What I found is that even with 8 years of IT experience, I couldn't even get an interview without having a Bachelors degree.

I'm doing the MCSE thing on my own time. I was able to get the company I work for to buy the books. If you are a "techy" kind of person, it's really not all that hard(at least so far it hasn't been!) Just a lot of reading. I already have a Windows 2003 server here at work to practice on.... I probably should setup a test server though.

PSS. yaitisme is totally correct in saying that nursing is the way to go. My wife is a nurse and they can find a job anywhere! So unfair!

One of my friends I used to work with (also laid off, we both had the same position) has been looking at going back to school for nursing. At FVTC there is a waiting list to get into the nursing program, the soonest she could get in is 2010!

2010, that's crazy. Difficult to believe that FVTC wouldn't flex to accommodate that sort of demand.

You basically have to apply when you are a sophomore in high school. That is just crazy isn't it?!

If the waits are anywhere from 3 to 10 years how many people are going to flood this field in the next 10 years. In 10 years we will be sitting here reading the I'm a nurse thread and don't waste your time getting into the field thread. instead of the IT thread.

Children (Not you Mako)- I'm older than most of you! Everyone is unhappy with their job to some degree. That's why they call it "work" or some other less desirable phrase and not play.
To chime in on my end. I have a BSc from Madison in Zoology (no jobs), a MSc from Montana State in Fisheries and Wildlife Mgmt (few jobs and crappy pay), a handful of teaching certifications and a MA in Educational Leadership (lots of jobs as a Principal if you thrive on being called an ******* by the parents of every little juvenie delinquent that gets in hot water (lots of them)). I now am starting a plant business - Healthy and none of my "students" talk back to me EVER. I like my boss and I get to see my kids grow up. The pay could be better but the perks are great. I'll have to work on that pay thing. Start your own business!
