FS: Ice Caps

Hey guys...
I just picked up a box full of IceCap ballasts, wiring harnesses, and endcaps from a guy on Craigslist. In total there are 5 ballasts:
2 x 660s
2 x 430s
1 x 330

a bunch of harnesses and some bigger (T12?) endcaps.

I will be keeping the 2 660s and a couple harnesses but if anyone is interested in the rest let me know. I have no clue if they work or not but the guy said he used to own an aquarium maintenance business and they all worked at time of dis assembly. Just a quick disclaimer, buy at your own risk, I can not guarantee they will all work flawlessly as they were not from my tank setup.

I guess I have to set a price so lets say $45/each for the 430s and $30 for the 330.

Also, I have the end caps so lets say $10 for all those.

Let me know...also interested in trades for them if you have anything good.

Thanks,

can I use a 430 as a back up for a 660 ??

Ted-found this online...

"Ice Cap 430 are the coolest, versatile and most powerful electronic ballasts available. Running on 40% less electricity and burning 40% brighter these VHO have a unique circuitry preventing lamp burn out and fading which is often associated with VHO bulbs. The Ice Cap 430 ballast is compatible with VHO, HO and STD fluorescent lamps in any combination. This ballast can operate with 4 separate lamps with any combination of bulbs and up to a sum total of 330watts. Overall the Ice Cap 430 ballast is the ultimate lamp driver for all VHO, PC and T5HO lamps."

Ted...it depends on what length bulbs you are running. The 660 is the only ballast by Icecap that will fire 4 separate 4 foot bulbs. You could use it as a partial backup, but it wouldn't run just like a 660 would.

Craig...I saw that last night and thought about contacting the guy because it seemed like one heck of a deal. If only I had unlimited money, I could follow through on all the things I want to do with my tank, but seeing as that's not the case, I'll have to pass for now.

Not really. You can't use the wiring harness from the 660 for the 430, so you would have to re-wire everything. The 430 also won't run as many lamps as the 660.

Thanks guys- I will continue to look for a backup 660. In case I end up loosing one again.

No problem Ted...I just wanted to put them out there for other people since I won't need all five.

cloakerpoked...yeah I saw it the night he posted it on CL. Since I will be building my own hood now I was looking for a couple 660s. I emailed for just those two but he wanted them all gone together so now I guess I am a Steven Pro Jr IC rep;)

Update on box of ballasts

Update on box of ballasts

OK...well I have had numerous PM's about the ballasts so today I went through the box to see exactly what I had for everyone.

There are 5 ballasts (2x660s one newer looking/one older looking, 2x430s one newer looking, one with no label on the front, 1x330 older looking),4 wire harnesses, 2 metal heat sinks, five T12 waterproof endcaps (2 sets new in package, 3 endcaps out of package, and 2 sets of acrylic mounting brackets for the endcaps still new in package.

To be honest, I have no way to test to see if any of these things work or not. I didn't realize how much wiring and additional parts I would need on these ballasts (T5 endcaps, bulbs, ground wire, etc) to get these wired and ready to go.

I think I am just going to buy a 72" whole light fixture instead as they are on sale at a few places now online and will speed up my build process as it is already taking the whole summer for me.

Anyhow, so I know various people are interested in different things in the box. As I said before, I can not guarantee anything works or does not. Therefore, I am going to put up the whole box including everything I got for sale for $100 and somebody who knows what they are doing can sort through them and see what they can use. I got these off the guy on Craiglist and he was selling them for $150. Here is his add:

http://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/hsh/1348541110.html

So first person with $100 OBO takes everything in the box. Again, I do not know what works or doesn't work and I have not a clue how to wire these up without doing some more research first but even if just one 660 works for someone it might be worth it I was thinking since they are over a $100 retail.
