Cross country move impending and need space for now, so I am getting rid of a 40 gallon setup that has gone to seed a bit. Token $50 for everything, to someone from RC, who knows how to move this (it's up one flight of stairs) and how to take care of the current denizens.
This started life as one of those all-in one acrylic tanks, it has a built-in sump in back with a return pump. It has a painted/coated particle board stand with storage that came with the tank, and I stuck a piece of 1/8" plastic sheet cut to size on the top under the tank. It has an Aqua-C remora hang on back skimmer with pump, that draws from and returns to the back/sump. In the main tank there are two oscillating ZooMed powersweep 214's for circulation. The light fixture holds 4 T5's, currently only one bulb is installed but last I checked they all worked and I have run it on 1,2,3 and 4 bulbs depending on what was in the tank without problems. That said the legs and the clear bulb-protector sheet on this light fixture are a write-off, so the light fixture is the only part of the setup that might best be viewed as a stop-gap to be repaired or replaced, but with a little tlc it has been continuing to support coral and coralline just fine for now.
The sand bed is a fine-sand bed that had caribsea special grade added to it later, it is very deep with a healthy worm etc. population and has also accumulated a good bit of trapped sediment over the years that has never been removed but probably ought to be.
The live rock mostly started as cultured live rock from e.g. Gulf View and the like, it has a decent bit of coralline on it and at least one pretty big cryptic bivalve that is still growing.
There are two damsels, fish-wise. In terms of corals (all soft) there are two large cabbage leathers, a big chunk of gsp, a couple of kenya trees. Plant wise a slow-growing but long-surviving bit of halimeda, and some robust and well anchored red macroalgae. Courtesy of the very last frag swap I went to, just as I started to have absolutely no time to give this tank the tlc it deserves, there is a bit of green bubble algae and a reasonably healthy population of aiptasia.
There are a lot of copepods in the sump area - I can't stick my hands back there without getting one on me. I assume the damsels eat them when they venture into the front. There are some tiny limpets on the glass that are proliferating, so they must be able to complete their life cycle in the tank. There have been various kinds of snails and mini brittle stars in the sand bed / under rocks over time, but I couldn't swear how many of each are present currently.
Also included- heater, external digital thermometer, some B-ionic #1 and 2, a big tub of kent marine reef carbon, and a few odds and ends (turkey baster, hydrometer, everything you would need but if reading this you probably already have). There are a couple of mesh bags in the sump, one for kent carbon and one for phosban, which I'm out of.
I'm away sat and sun but will get back to any /all pms starting Monday.
Have more pics but not having any luck uploading them for now, happy to email those if you provide me with an email and grateful for any advice on uploading them as well
thanks
