fuge algae/tang food

I am looking for an algae that will live in my fuge (benifit the tank a little) and serve as a food for my sailfin tang. I do skim semi-heavily

currently i am thinking about the following:

Halymenia- Red Leaf Algae

Cladophora- Green Hair Algae (will this bloom and take over my tank? or can i confine it to the fuge?)

Ulva- Sea Lettuce

Red Sea weed

something that would promote and help pod/worm growth would be nice also

also, would a mangrove be worth my time for nutrient export in a fuge?

any other suggestions would be great!

Ulva is a good candidate. I'm not sure I would tempt the Cladophora honestly.. but it could be okay. I'm not positive that tangs will eat it. Halymenia is beautiful but grows a little too slow to be a good food farm item. Some tangs eat it into non-existence.. some turn up their noses at it and show no interest. Very hit or miss.

What were you thinking for "red sea weed".. there are thousands of species. Perhaps Gracilaria sp., aka tang heaven? That would be a good candidate to grow and, as the common name suggests, tangs typically love it.

so Ulva or a type of red seaweed?

Gracilaria is a good red? does it grow semi fast? i only have one tang and would probably use it for feed every other day or so.

This is Halimeda

My vote is for Gracilaria. My tang loves the stuff, and it grows very quickly so its good for nutrient export. Pods reproduce like crazy in it too.

I thought Tang's disliked Halimeda due to the calcium carbonate in their tallus? Are there any particular Tang's that will eat Halimeda or is it simply a matter of starving them a bit?

Right I've never seen tangs/surgeonfish go after the calcerous macros like Halimeda. Parrotfish are a different story.

Looks like a Powder Blue Tang (Acanthurus leucosternon) (correct me if I'm wrong), was that the one you saw eat Halimeda?
