Mine goes with the flow from the diplay in to a section with my skimmer. Then have baffles into the fuge. I have live rubble and a three inch sand bed. The water then flow into a return section that goes back to the tank. I feel that by skiimming in the first section the fuge does not get all the stuff it may need. I may be wrong. Secondly alot of the crap does not get through the baffles and builds up. Is my set up wrong?

This is the way I have one of my sumps set-up. It doesn't allow much for pods to get pass the skimmer section though. There are ways to plumb it so some of the water flows directly to the fuge which will allow for more pods and algae growth. As for detritus in your skimmer section you might use a filter sock with some carbon.

There is argument both ways on this subject. But, your skimmer would have to skim 100% of the water that flows into that section of the sump. Probably not going to happen. Yes, it will cut down on the stuff that flows into the fuge, but not all. Just my 2c.
