Fully stocked reef tank ICH Treatment!!!! IT WORKS!!!

Reefer
Ok so I have a fully stocked reef tank SPS, LPS. And I came across some bugs and really had no intention of treating for ICH but I had about 4 tangs with ich some almost covered and after treating with this stuff all the ich was gone and hasn't came back! Its been over a month. The product was levamisole soluble drench made by prohibit. My system is approx. 200 gal and I dosed 3.3 grams disolved in cup of water and slowly added to system over period of 2-3 minutes. Allow this to run for 2 hours. Remover all carbon and turn off skimmer while treating tank. After 2 hours run fresh carbon and do about 10 percent water change. IT WORKS!!! I was so freakin happy no more ICH!

Huh, I've never heard of such a thing. Do you have more information on it? I ran it through a search and it seems to be something used to deworm cattle and sheep? (And if this is the case, what on earth gave you the idea to put it in your tank? :lmao: ) You only left it in for two hours? It would be interesting to test this further.

It kills ich parasites embedded in the fish and developing cysts inside a protective "shell' without killing fish or corals? Even copper won't kill ich in these stages. I'll follow along, this should get interesting. I'm just curious as to what a 10% WC could do.

I used levamisol when I treated for AEFW. Used as multi-hour dips outside the reef display, though. I don't remember the dosage, but to kill the AEFW it was higher than the corals liked. They suffered. This was before better options like Revive.

Anyways, AFAIK it's a dewormer. Not sure what it would do for ich.

Got me hitched on this one too.....now to keep this going without getting an infraction.....

I'm intrigued as well, there is plenty to read on treating cattle and swine, but I can't find anything that says it's useful for cryptocaryon.

I had the same thing happen, I was doing the on-tank treatment for AEFW. Had fish with a slight case of ich when I treated the tank with levamisole. I posted that it killed the ick, and it didn't come back! Kinda expected more people to respond, I was pretty excited about it! I treated my 215g system with 2.5grams of levamisole, soluble drench powder. Shut of skimmer and carbon reactor(but put a air stone by my mp-60)!

This is getting my attention,I just went through hypo and still have ick.How does this effect corals and clams and inverts.

Interesting. Never heard of it being used for cryptocaryon irritans. More information? Results after 10 weeks?

It stuns inverts for a little while but they bounce back quickly. I pull my starfish out and put it in some tank water and keep temp stable. It absolutely blew my mind! But yes that's exactly what I was treating for aefw ..... the recommended dosage is 5 grams to 300 gal. It got rid of a bunch of unwanted stuff for sure but I still have a lot of pods and stuff I did loose a couple of snails but nothing major

Yes, please update as time goes on. Also, a general list of what's in the tank, and how each type of animal reacted would be great, if you have some spare time :)

Tank is 144 gal (oceanic halfround)incase the 144 threw you off :) 75 gal sump. Tank is stocked with over 250 lbs LR. 3-4 inch DSB. Mix of about 20 snails.... astrea, cerith, nerite, (1) zebra turbo, 10 hermit crabs or so. (1) 6-line wrasse, (1) melanarus wrasse,(1) neon goby,(2) ocellaris clowns , (1) pacific blue tang, (1) desjardini sailfin tang, (1) vampire aka tenneti tang , (1) blood red fire shrimp, (1) red fromia starfish.

About 20 different acros and montis....frags and colonies......, a few chalices , acan , scoly , micromussa. That's about it for livestock. Signature list most of my equipment. Anything else let me know.

Snails and crabs were stunned shortly after dosing began. Fish were fine out swimming and eating, corals looked fine some of the acros didn't have full PE but they didn't seem harmed at all. I had some little/big brown planaria flatworm looking things that were becoming an eyesore, they all started floating and dissapeared. And haven't seen one since treatment. Oh and I did runfilter socks to catch unwanted stuff as it got filtered out.
