Fuzz algae?

I was at one lfs today, and his rocks are covered in what I can best describe as "fuzz". They are different shades of red and green. It's not coraline, since I know coraline is more hard and stony plaques. It scrapes off and looks like bristles leaving behind rock stained same color. It's not cyano, too hairy looking. Too short for GHA. It looked pretty cool to me, but the young kid they had manning the store had no clue what it was. Any opinions?

Red turf algae?

I have some turf algae, and my yellow tang loves it. It seems to grow on the shady sides of certain rocks, is difficult to scrape off even with a toothbrush, and the tang seems to love to snack on it. The stuff in my tank looks almost like felt cloth.

Sounds like it, Floowid. Felt cloth is pretty accurate, more so than fuzz. Looks cool, but with 4 tangs I guess I'll never get to grow it. Oh, well. I should just be glad they keep GHA down.

All for the best anyway. Turf algae is usually considered a nuisance. If it weren't for the tang, I would probably have scrubbed it all off and been rid of it. As it is, the tang is going to make sure that it doesn't last much longer.
