He doesnt seem stressed at all and eats like a pig, cardinals, glass shrimp cherry shrimp. Still wont touch frozen, grabbed a frozen mysis once but never again...
Eating like a pig is no indication of a balanced complete diet. It's not an insult to you or your husbandry, as most preds in captivity have some degree of malnutrition. What is it you're feeding him, if not frozen?
As i said live cardinals, cherry shrimp, ghost shrimp and the occasional chromis... Not sure how much more of a balance i can give him, what do you suggest, also when i say he hasnt grown, he probably has i just havnt noticed...
Oh sorry, I read that as what is in your tank, not what you are feeding them. Fish in the wild eat an extraordinary varied diet. The different fish they eat are all rich in different things. We can't duplicate that easily in our tanks. I feed out about 20 things and don't keep them in the freezer but a couple of weeks at most. I feed enrichments to help give them what they miss and I even feed fresh fruit. Antioxidants and such deteriorate rapidly and the fruit helps to round it out. The effects of a "poor" diet are not necessarily seen in a short amount of time, but often comes out later in life. If you switched his diet up now, he'd probably still grow. I first witnessed this with a 3 year old volitans, but that's a whole other story Again, this isn't a slight to you, I did a questionnaire a few years back and out of 50 people, only a couple were covering all the nutrients. Can you train him to frozen?
I give them a piece of frozen, then fruit, frozen then fruit. You can see them go "heeeeeey!", but they don't mind. Different fish like different fruit and everyone likes strawberries.
