Gamma Reef ...Sps From Brazil

Daniel,
Bravo! Tank looks amazing. I have a larger 48 inch x24x 24inch tank with the same CREE LED's. My tank is only a couple months old so far so it will take much more time for it to look like yours if at all. The biggest problem I have with the LED's if you call it a problem, is getting the coral acclimated. I started at 100 RB and about 10-20% CW. It took a month of slow color fade before I concluded the RB needed to be started closer to 50%.
Since decreasing the RB to 50% the pigments are slowly getting more concentrated.
Did you find you needed to acclimate your SPS like this? If so what did you start your lighting at? How quick did you raise the intensity settings?
Also, aside from balling. Do you add any other supplements?
Thanks, Chris

Everything including your English :) is very beautiful. A beautiful testament of what LEDs can do. Great job.
It's really commendable that you are following your passion for Reefing in Brazil even though it's not pocket friendly. That's very inspiring to all of us.

You are not running any Phosphate removing media?
Can we see a sump/equipment pics if you hVe the time? It will be great.
Can you elaborate on the balling system you are employing for your tank?
Is it on a automatic dosing setup or manual? What quantity and frequency do you dose?
Do you feed your corals?
I am sure your parameters are spot on, coz the success of your reef is self explanatory. Amazing colors and growth in 10 months.
I am really sorry for so many questions. Just trying to learn from your experience :)
And thanks for sharing your beautiful reef.
Happy Reefing!!

Hi fellows!

furfeet and bagz - thank you for your words.

Chrishayes- I know that you aren´t saying that leds are bad :fun2:...and I completly agree with your point: Leds aren´t eternal...and some pieces have to be replaced with time. Of course, keeping a light fixture as cool as possible..this maintenance could be delayed...and I think that this is a good point for diy fixtures cause you can customize as you want! Thanks again for your words!

Hi Steevareno, thank you. Mostly were tiny frags...but torttuosa turcoise and my poccilopora green no, these pieces came to me as colonies of medium size.

Hi Cediss, thanks. I never dim down my leds...because many of my corals came to me from a very bright tanks (halides mostly). I just aclimated a few frags...putting on the floor for a week or two...and then put the corals in the definitive place. I don´t use any other suplement...just balling.

Hi Reefnoob...thank you for your words...i´m happy that you can understand my english!!
No..I don´t use any Phosphate media....to be honest I used GFO for 3 months...but I don´t saw any difference in my display...so against the phosphates..only vodka .
I will take a picture of my sump tonight! But its a very simple sump!
My balling system consist of 3 solutions that I bought from a brazilian seller...1-Ca, 2-Kh and 3- Mg (and other elements...i think...but the seller never revels to me) For while i´m dosing daily and manualy...but I need to buy a pump doser as soon as possible!!!
I´m currently dosing 40ml of solutions 1 and 3, and 100ml of solution 2...but i don´t know about my consumption in ppm ( shame). One thing that helps me so much...is my salt...HW professional is really a very good salt..and keep the other elements in check!

Thank you all!!!!! I´m very happy that you liked my reef!!! Tonight i will post some new pictures of my sump...and...pictures of the worst problem that I ever had in my tank, 4 months ago.....AEFW!!!!!

Best regards!!!!!! Sorry for my terrible english

Hello my friend.

Nice to see you here too and, as always, very very very nice tank.

I'm a personal friend of Daniel here in Brazil. What I can tell you guys about him is that HE is the most hobby passionate guy I've ever see. And a very good friend.

Really nice job Daniel.

Roberto Lopes

Nice tank, I'm just loving to see more LED's powered tank with such great colors, also you made a excellent job placing corals and aquascaping. Keep it up!

Renato.

Hi Daniel
Thanks so much for answering my questions.
About the balling. You said 40ml of 1 and 2 and 100ml of 3. Is this a daily dose amount?
I am contemplating on balling on my tank, as the demands gets higher. Your tank is definitely learning experience for me.
I guess you dont have to worry about calculating anything coz you are doing things right and ur corals are proof of that :)
What's the total capacity of ur tank including sump?
Waiting foe more updates from ya :)
Happy Reefing!!

Here I am again...

Thank´s to my compatriots Rodrigo and Renato!!!!

Thank you to my friend Roberto Lopes which have one of the nicest tanks that I ever saw! With many tangs and dozens colonies of sps!

Also thank´s to reefer 1225 and grttsou!!! I´m happy that you liked my reef!!!!!

Noob....

All my system has exactly 60 gallons of water, and yes this is my daily dosage...but i think that this balling solution is very diluted.

As I said before...my simple sump...and a picture of my skimmer too:

Just a short novel:

Four months ago I found AEFW in my acros...after read a thousand of threads in a dozen of foruns I decided to make a quarentine treatment.
I set up a little qt connected in the same sump of Dt. I put many filters in the pipes between this two systems to garantee that none aefw could pass from Dt to Qt. I put all my acros inside the qt and I did a 10min bath with 5ml per litter of Melafix, using a small pump to blast all MFCKers platelmintes. This procedure was repeated during 7 long weeks, but after that I never saw those bastards again...my corals recovered the colors and i´m happy again since than. In this battle I just lost one coral (one millie pink that was very infected and was sacrificed).

Now some terrible pictures of this terrible event:

This is what I found after a Melafix bath in one millie:

After 7 weeks of treatment...

After that...Lesson learned: I will never put any coral here without pre treatment and very close inspection, doesn´t matter the coral procedence...if the pope or madona sends me a coral I will pre treat before put in my Dt.

Thank you all!!!!! I´m very happy with this thread!

Hiya Daniel
Thanks for the quick reply. Your tank is seriously making me think about balling. But guess I will wait a bit longer I want my parameters stabilized then the maintenance thru balling. But first il also need to get a 3 part doser :).
My tank would be totalling about 85 gallons.
It's just great that you beat those flat worms. And melafix worked out. That's cool. I'm using Revive dips before placing corals in my tank. Just a precaution.
How long do you QT ur new corals? Do you turkey bast them in 10 min in melafix just once before u add them from QT to display? Or fo you do multiple dips through the QT period.
Your skimmer looks cool. Is that skimmate in that coke bottle. Lol just joking. :D would make a nice April fools prank. :D
Keep up the great job. Best of luck too.

Daniel,
Thanks for the update of your sump. Simple is good.
As for your pretreat, can you explain what you use and how you do this. Years ago I had AEFW and Red Bugs. I have been lazy with this new system and did not pretreat the few frags I have so far. I want to pre-treat if I can find a way to do this without stressing out the new corals. Thanks, Chris

Hi guys...

Noob and Cediss

My quarantine it isn´t installed right now. I just used during the aefw treatment period.
My pre-treatment is very simple: I make a melafix bath (5ml/litter of salt water) with blasting for 10 minutes and a close inspection in the bases with magnifying glass before add to DT.
Melafix don´t harm the corals but don´t kill red bugs too. Probably a Bath with interceptor for some hours could help the pre-treatment, maybe I will include this step next time.
This isn´t the safest procedure but I can´t keep a qt tank right now.

Noob could you send me the link of your thread (SPS dominated tank)????

Thanks guys!

Thanks again for your quick response to me Daniel. Appreciate it.
I hav not tried Melafix as a QT procedure. But I think its a good option and il do this too, thanks to you.
Currently I am using Revive. But so far so good.
This is the link to build thread of my humble tank. Thanks so much for the interest. It's not yet SPS dominated, and has LPS in it too. But i am aiming for more SPS :)

Hoping for your comments and suggestions on my setup.

Happy Reefing!!

Thanks Daniel. I'll implement this process for new frags! Keep up the good work and hails from California!

great tank!
looking forward for the sump photos.
inspiring!

can i ask you how did you deal with aefw and what are your water parameters?
do you also use vodka along with balling?
