Anyone in the area keeping the sump/refugium/etc in the garage? Care to share some details. Are you climate controlling the garage? Are you using a dehumidifier? Etc etc...Thanks

I am. I do not have any climate control in the garage. I sometimes run a dehumidifier, but not often. You can see my set up in the link below.

That is really nice. Is that a chiller on the bottom? Does it get really hot in there during the summer?
Thanks

im running a similar setup that i built a room around mine and hooked up a ac supply line for some cool air or heat...i will try and post pics ...and bpcardona thats a really nice setup

I run mine in the garage as well. Insulated box made with 2x4s, pond liner, and styrofoam top. Able to adequately cool with just a fan and heat with a 250w heater. I have a second 250w heater for when it gets under 40 outside. It's nice not having to worry able spilling water. Tank is a 250dd and sump/refuge are roughly 120g.

That is my chiller. It doesn't run alot, but does kick on periodically through the day. This feeds a 220 gallon display in the house, and the house stay pretty cold. I run T5s not MHs, so doesn't heat up a lot. During the summer I do see a raise in the light bill, but it is worth the convenience of have the room.

Is the stand for your 55 gallon drum made out of 4x4 legs or 2x4?

I run my entire sump in the garage. Plus chiller outside of the house.
So far no issues. Granted I am in South Florida...so not many issues with freezing weather.
I do have a very oversized chiller so I am keeping temps constant at 77.

Awesome setups....how do you guys install the pipes through the wall? Are there any remade sleeves you can use? Do you just use pipe insulation? ? Thanks

How cool do you keep your house, 70?

That makes sense - I couldn't figure out how your chiller wasn't running constantly otherwise.

Right you are. I do however have a 40B set up as a QT (can be seen in the left of my pic). It of course is independent of the display and has it's own chiller. It runs constantly.

I work in construction so I just brought home the big chipping hammer and blew a 4" hole through my wall for the PVC pipes and low voltage reef keeper cables and then filled with great stuff to seal the air /noise/ or bugs out......my area was solid concrete ..but you might find you have hollow cells in your concrete cynder blocks then you can just use a regular hammer to tap the block you can hear the difference to tell where the hollow area is and then hit it with the hammer to break it open its really simple and just measure the same distance on the other side to meet the holes up.....or you can take a long hammer drill bit and drill a hole through to line up your holes then chip or beat out the rest of the concrete .....I really like this setup the best the noise is almost nothing all the noise is kept in the garage and there is so much more room for expansion out there for larger sump/ refuge/ fans /q tank /frag tank /ato tank /water changing systems / calcium reactor/ect.....and also I never work with any water in my house on the wood floors all the work is done from the garage area so there are some huge advantages to this setup its the only way I will go from now on and the room I built is drywalled and insulated the doors are completely sealed and I ran a duct from my ac to keep it the same temp as the main house so while I make saltwater it always stays the same temp as the main display and being its in the same temp as the house I don't use a chiller just a fan on a temp controller via reef keeper that only turns on during the day ....
I replaced all the doors in my house so I kept 3 doors and cut them to size and made a huge double door setup on the sump side and a single door on the water change side.
