Garden Tub Aquarium!

What if you have a few girls over one night and they want to get in the bath tub together. Than what are you going to do?

you are in college you should contemplate this issue with great care... you must find an alternative group bathing site

also you could use a toilet as a frag tank. PC flood light and a little egg crate and you are there. Also you can do really easy water changes :)

I have a 65 gallon already. I'm bringing it down Saturday. i was going to use the tub as a temporary holding container while I re-plumb everything, and then I figured why not just use it as a frag set-up!

WOAH, 7?! dang. that's crazy. So unbelievable it's gotta be true...

Yea, that thought came to mind... It's a tough choice. But, there is a pond just a short walk away. I'm sure we could work out something :)

I never said you were taking a bath. I simply tried to point out, in a light hearted way, that double-wides never come with hot water heaters big enough to fill the silly garden tubs that are sold with them. I find it funny, and thought other people would also. No more, no less.

No, what I find funny is the 1 hour wait for it to fill up... Who cares how big of a hot water heater you have, it'll be cold by the time it's full!
Then ya gotta wait 15mins for it to drain

If I were going to use a garden tub as a tank, I would make a super-fund-my-college-degree frag setup that would supply the whole galaxy with frags. :D
That's what I'm going for!

So I thought it's about time for an update. Everything's moved and settling in now. A lot of my frags are quiet irritated, but hopefully they'll start opening up in the next few days.
Now I need to think of a way to mount my T5's so I can get a relatively even spread over the tub, and still be able to have elbow room in the tank. You guys have any ideas?

Hahaha. Yea, I actually went through with it. It was funny after unloading all the livestock into the tub, my mom and roommate looked at it and said "Why don't you just leave it in here? That actually looks pretty cool."

I've got a lot of ideas on the drawing board.
Obviously, the lights need to be worked on. I'm thinking of taking them out of the canopy and building a small acrylic enclosure. Then I can hang it or build a cantilever type structure off the wall, maybe with a pulley system so I can pull them up when I need to work on the tank. I'm looking to get more opinions on this.

Right now the RO/DI unit is installed under the sink just to the left of the tub. There's only a thin board separating the tub from under the sink, so I'd like to set-up an ATO directly into the tank (uh, I mean tub...)

Also, the panels surrounding the tub look to be pretty easily removed. I'm thinking it might be possible to remove them and set-up a sump behind the tub. Then I can replace the panels (but not secure them) so the filtration will still be hidden but accessible.

And finally, just for aesthetics, I need to trim the plastic liner and straighten it. I should be able to stretch it under the molding around the tub and make it look much better.

Oh yea, what's the best wood sealant to use to protect against the saltwater? My dad mentioned that CWF deck sealant is good. What do you guys think?

I think that you're going to have issues getting even spread across the tank with T5s without diluting the par from them. Perhaps a light mover of sorts? That spins the T5 fixture? High par in the center, with lower par levels as you move toward the outside? Able to be paused at the push of a button for easy(ier) access to the tank without getting smacked in the head? Do it!!!

You could bathe with your corals.......throw some cleaner shrimp in there and you won't have to buy soap. More $ for corals and equipment. I like your style, lol....

My guess is the lights will destroy the clear plastic liner quickly. I would at least shade any exposed parts you can and hope the water protects the liner at the bottom.
