Gary's in Maumee closed?

Ocean Treasures is under new ownership.

which place was it near Tropical Reef? might not be there any more or i just miss it when i cruise through the area.

Trilby and Ocean Treasures can order stuff in for you. done it before and they beat online prices, believe it or not. just had trilby get me a bad of the new black flourite sand for fw.

Last time I went to Ocean Treasures I walked in and walked straight out without missing a step...didn't even look like there was a reef store there, just a front for something else. Didn't look like they had anything worth selling in the store.

I tried to get a tailspot blenny at Coral Reef and they kept saying goby, then ended up ordering me some 6" weird tilefish I think. Not too impressed with any place regularly stocking the gorgeous nudibranchs destined for starvation. I did get a good deal on some cowries there though.

Salty Critter is awesome of course, and it seems like Trilby is improving. They are already pretty amazing on freshwater, just need time to catch up with the reef supplies. A decent selection of frags would be good, they wouldn't buy any from me last time I tried.

That does suck about Gary's, he had the nicest local SW stuff, and is a really nice guy.

There is a major void of stores that deal in captive frags. Only thing you can get locally now is wild colonies.

I was in Ocean Treasures a few weeks ago. He didn't have a whole lot in stock BUT he does have a nice little frag tank with buy 3 get one free (it was loaded with some nice frags too). Maybe it was even buy 2 get one free? He is also supposed to get a hold of me about a hippo tang he has in his display although I never did hear back from him on a pm I sent him on another forum. Personally I have always liked to deal with Ocean Treasures.

I didn't come on here to make a stab and retaliate for the major misconception you made therman.........But for the fact of the matter about frags at my shop 90% of them are captive raised at our house in one of six coral vats rangeing from 120 gals on up to 300 gals.

Now for stating that we own a fish store as a front, thats a pretty bold statement to be making considering the owner of the shop is a retired sheriff deputy of 28yrs and my grand father whom still is after 30+yrs.......so as far as stating the shop is a front thats way out of pocket considering you dont know us.

With all that being said if anyone feels that were missing something that you would truly like to see in our shop I will do my best to accommodate all. Don't be afraid to ask for something. I try my best to get people what they want.

Yeah my shop is small but keeping it small allows me to keep prices a bit lower. That is why sometimes the shop looks empty. Sometimes we get two orders in a week just to keep it full. So if it didn't look like we had much.....probably didn't at the time and were waiting on a order. I've only owned the shop for a little over a year now so things are always changing.....like adding the two frag tanks. I cannot read minds on what people want. Don't think I will get mad for you asking me to get something for you....thats my job.

I do apologize to Dubbin. I tried to get the hippo out but just couldn't. I would be willing to work with you in getting one in the size you want or something else.

This is not an advertisement but clearing up some things that have been said about my shop, which is my livelihood.

I have been up to toledo to Ocean Treasures a couple of times and have had good experiences both times there. the guy that owns it was very helpful with me answering questions I had and helping me pick out coral frags that will do well in my tanka dn with the lighting I have. He was having at the time, don't know if it's a constant special, buy two frags get one free. All the frags I got have been doing good so far. I had been in Gary's once and thought he had a really nice selection of SW. I am gonna have to check out some of the other stores you guys have mentioned in your posts.

i have applied for a buisness grant. I would either like to 1. start my own shop someday and hire the experiance needed to run it. 2. Start my own Special Tee golf shop.

Ok i feel as a Active Customer of Ocean Treasures that i need to clear the air a bit. Richard the Owner Has been nothing but good to me every single time i have been in his shop. I looked up all the Hardware i was buying to set up my 55g tank, Called Up Ocean Treasures and he Matched or Beat Nearly EVERY single Price on my list, The items that he Couldn't Beat he TOLD me to order it off line. Yes the shop is Small, Yes the tanks are not STUFFED with fish, BUT one thing i can count on, Every single thing i buy from OT is healthy, If it isn't Healthy he wont sell it! So yes you cant walk in to OT any day of the week and buy any SW fish on the market, But the owner will go the extra length to get what you want just ask him!

Richard,
I sincerely apologize, that statement was very harshly written and based on one experience and some hearsay from other people. I don't remember the exact date, it was quite a while back and the store may have been in transition or under the different ownership. I was wrong to post it on this forum and would be perfectly ok if a Moderator could delete that post.

I applaud your efforts and as Gary is a testament to it is a very difficult business to be in. I will stop in again soon.

Again, I'm sorry about that post.

Tropical Reef on McCord is pretty much amazing. John will get you whatever you want as long as it's legal and he beats prices on the majority of livestock even stuff from LiveAquaria. He'll also setup pretty much any piece of equipment you buy from him. I'll admit I haven't bought much from him yet but I'm going to be purchasing a CA Reactor for the 75g reef at my school (St. John's) and he said he would set it up for us and even hook me up with the CO2 for it.

A friend told me about them when I was starting up. They helped me out alot. I bought alot of stuff from them. It is ran by 2 guys, Mike and Jim, that have other jobs so their hours are limited as you can see below and their store is small. They said they are planning on making it bigger. They have coral and fish. The prices were good too. I haven't been there for several mos.

13 State Route 108 I, Holgate, OH 43527

Open Friday 4-8, Sat. 12-4 and Sun. 12-4

I'll pm you there website (don't know if, you are allowed to post that)

I went there yesterday with my bro in law. Its a very small store but they did have some nice stuff. They just got an order in (lots of floating bags) so I didn't get to see everything. They were also super friendly and seemed to know what they were talking about. IMO the prices were a little on the high side BUT everything looked good and healthy.

I'll have to check it out next Saturday. I was gonna go today but I decided changing water and what not was a bit more important.
