Gem tang for $1100. To do or not to do...?

Its sooo hard deciding cuz I have my loyalty to "lebron".
I'll probably pull the trigger, QT him for a while, then acclimation box him for a bit. If aggression is there or doesn't subside in a week or two then I'll sell off the BT.

@tony. If I knew how to download pics from my iPad to here I would. But I'm the most technologically inept person on the planet. I can barely turn on my iPad. It literally serves me 3 purposes, looking up fish stuff, playing a few games and keeping my 8yr old occupied in the car on trips
Don't buy fish because they are rare or expensive. After some time for you they are not rare or special anymore... Maybe others will still be impressed but ask yourself for whom you are keeping an aquarium?
Personally I like the cole tang better than any other. Not as flashy or aggressive as many others but for me it is the tang. Lucky me

I've had sooooo many tangs over the years.
They are probably my second favorite group behind wrasses.
My favs are the Gem, black, clown, guttatus, dusmerssi, purple and then baby chevron.
I won't keep a clown again, and purple most likely again either(too agressive). I
I'm not looking to collect it cuz its rare, but because I like the looks. The rarity adds to the price but IMO not the beauty. The beauty lies in the bluish sheen that shadows the spot laden body. You truly can't enjoy these fish unless you see them in person or a great macro shot.
Just like my Black tang. There's something about the jet black body effortlessly swimming through the water like a stealth bomber. The sheen it has is also great.

Luckily my fiancée is a supporter of my habit. She was the one who told me to bite the bullet on the BT. However this would be a different story. But since we are not married yet, have seperate bank accts and is the chilliest girl I know, I'd assume id get a "holy sh*t" followed by an "hopefully it lives, and if it makes you happy".
I wouldn't have my 11ft tank if it weren't for her saying "it's your house, do what you want".

We will be keeping seperate accts and have 1 joint just for the bills. The rest we each keep. Not the same amnt either, but whatever is left over from the bills. So thats a nice plus.

You might want to talk to a family law attorney. Sometimes whatever arrangements married couples make are meaningless without a valid written instrument. Just my two cents.
Lol. Coral addiction. Yes if it were to come down to that, but it's not a divorce proceeding. Hell,if I were worried about a divorce, I wouldn't have proposed. Besides I'd be owning a bunch more rare fish if I thought divorce would be coming. I'd rack up one hell of a bill knowing she'd be taking half of it if that was the case.
But I know her feelings on that type of petty arguing. She doesn't understand how people can be like that. And she has grown up through three divorces, so she's seen garbage happen before. Her thoughts are "so it didn't work, move on and learn from it"

Try both fish but put mirrors around the tank. like 3-4 of them. use like small bathroom mirrors and tape them to the sides, it will confuse the hell out of them if the try to fight, like put them in the areas the black tang likes to hangout as well as some areas the gem might.
Thats what i did with my tangs and they still chase sometimes (not often) but they don't try to kill eachother.

Mirrors are the most amazing "fish-get-along" tools ever.
I just recently dropped a dussumieri in with a wicked powder blue, clown tang and menacing Desjardini all similar sized as the dussumieri. Let's just say the dussumieri would have been dead day one if not for the mirrors lol. This on my tang overstocked 6ft 210; ten tangs in there now!
