General GFO Question

I'm adding GFO back into the tank since my P04 is .4 and I can't seem to stop it from rising. There must be P04 leaching from the rocks. I'm adding only 1tbs of gfo combined with 4 tbs of carbon. I'll check it daily to monitor the change. I'm going to lose my BN and I'm hoping that the other corals recover. I placed a 100 micron filter sock on the outlet of the reactor, it's running at an RO output rate. I just got a Red Sea Pro Kit today, surprisingly my API and Red Sea Kit are in general agreement.

We'll see what happens. What a frustrating ordeal!

If the birdsnest looks very bad frag it away from the rtn/stn to try and save a piece. I have also had very good success using super glue to stop rtn. I saved 2 frags from my last order with the super glue trick.

There is something bigger going on than phosphates IMO.

What could be bigger than the gfo and the sudden drop of p04? Parameters have been stable. Issues started with the sharp P04 drop.

Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate >5
P04 .4 (Red Sea)
KH 11.5
CA 400
Mag ? Have a salifert but haven't tested recently

I can't explain it but I've seen a lot of young tanks less than 6 months have major problems with sps . I don't know why or how. Hopefully you can stop the Stn this weekend.

I'm done with the sps for a while. I admit, it was early and I won't make that mistake again. I'm troubled because my frogspawn is looking not well too. I'm hopeful that most recover. This would be much easier to accept of I knew exactly what went wrong.

Agreed Brad... I'm going to work on it in Saturday.

Started the tbs of gfo and carbon last night and my P04 was .4. I checked it this morning and it was clearly .36, very slight change. Is this pace good? It's amazing that a tbs can actually do anything. I'm using a Red Sea pro kit to test now.

Seems like a good pace to me. I went through the same thing around 6 months. Never figured out why it just did. Live and learn man! We all learn more all the time and no one really knows anything.
