So you drain some of the reactor water into a bottle. Is this an easy process? Is there some type of drain on the reactor to do this? Or do you just run effluent into a bottle?

On the reactor that GEO built for me it has a JG fitting that I can open up to drain water out of the reactor... So in my case it's an easy process...

I just got mine last Friday. I'm impressed with the quality and ease of use. Plug and play. Hope this image will help show where to drain and where to add the kalk slurry.

If you need a custom fabrication, let's just say it's more than worthwhile to get a quote.

Well, I ask because the picture on his website of the kalk reactor doesn't have the drain, and the plumbing is totally different. I'll send him an email.

Ereefic, the picture on the website just needs updated. The reactor that slovan has is the current model.

Thanks, figured that was the case. Already sent off an email to George just to make sure.

So how much kalk are people putting in there reactors?

1/4 to 1/3 cup every few weeks. That seems to keep the reactor cleaner for longer periods. Refilling it takes 10 minutes top. I run two one minute pulse on the powerhead.

I use about a cup a week. I dose kalk for all of my top off water, and I evaporate about 3 gallons per day.

Protein Skimmer

Protein Skimmer

I have a 210 gallon. Just got rid of ASM skimmer. made very poorly. Heard geos were great. Never seen. Any thoughts?

here is a pic of my new GEO skimmer before being hooked up. not quite as fancy as a 7 foot air driven one, but I'm sure I'll be more than happy with it.

 Cward I was wondering how long it would take you to reply!!! I've been trying to figure out why my x-10's have stopped working all of a sudden. that takes priority right now. I'll post a up and running pic soon. Skimer gets worked on today!

Lunchbucket I believe they are Gen X 4100's

they are 70 watt pumps if I'm reading right.

GX-4100

Gen-X submersible pump

1085 GPH
9.2ft maximum lift
UL approved
Ceramic Shaft, adjustable flow
1 year guarantee against manufacturer defects.
PSI Rating 3.98
5/8" and 1" ID Hose fittings included.
750 gallons at 3' Head
650 gallons at 5' Head
Power Consumpion 70 Watts

I went with them because they are what George is using currently. I trust his research and recommendations :)

I add about 1 Lb every so many weeks. I evaporate about 8-10 gpd in my 1000g system though. It stirs for 15 min. 6 times per day.

Well, the skimmer has been running since last monday. It started to produce skimmate right off the bat even though I have not had a skimmer running for about 2 weeks before that. So, I guess no "break in period".

I did not really try to fine tune it the first week as I only wanted it running to increase oxygenation during the power outtage (generator time). I will try to fine tune it some more this week.

The wetneck feature at first looked like it was not working and would require the skimmer to be dead level, which is nearly impossible. I tried a little more later on and managed to get it to work just fine. I did notice that the skimmate does become "wet" when running the wetneck. I decided to run it without the wet neck for one month and see the results. Then, I will run it for another month with it on to see the difference, if any, in skimmate quality. I also need to come up with a device to hold the skimmate in like a bucket or just drill the top of the skimmer to be able to vent the air out and close the draining valve in the collection cup.

I've only had it for one week now and I can tell you I am pretty satisfied so far. Certainly an improvement over my previous becket based skimmer (Aerofoamer 848 on iwaki 100). Also, after seeing first hand the performance in this skimmer, I am so glad I did not spend 3-5 times as much in getting a Deltec. Not because I think they are bad, but because I don't personally believe their performance justifies their cost in the bigger models. The smaller ones is another sotry.

dgasmd-your chiller and ac will run less with the new air skimmer because you will not be running that iwaki 100 pump.

ok still no reply from geo. Ive sent him 3 emails and nothing. I'm wondering if I'm wasting my time. Is he usually like this? I have a nice order for him but can't seem to get the time of day. IF anyone speaks with him please ask him to get a hold of me. Thanks!!!
