I cant stop looking at my skimmate and foam. Does anyone else have this problem. It is working so good and consistant, I am soooooooo happy with the differance from the AquaC.
You're a sick indivdual Tonym10! I can't believe you want to look at this all the time. :D

just joined the awsome world of the GEO club! Got my calcium reactor , 6x18. What are most of you guys using for media ? Also do I need the brass check valve inbetween the bubble counter and the co2 regulator like his directions say ? Its already got the plastic check in line there already but was'nt sure if most of you are using the brass also.....

poop I didnt have the brass check valve at first, the the first time co2 tank went empty salt water went threw the line and into the regulator. Now I have a brass check valve.

Did you have a Dennerle chech valve before the brass valve?

Does the brass check valve come with the reactor? or is it a separate sale item? My GEO-612 will be here tomorrow and was just curious whether or not I need to buy anything else since I already have the tank, regulator and powerhead.

I do not know what a Dennerle check valve is, but my reactor did come with the plastic check valve .

The reactor does not come with a brass check valve , you will need to buy one.

I'm still a bit confused here. Right now I have a tank and CO2 regulator....my reactor will be here tomorrow. In the reactor box will be a plastic check valve. But I still need to buy another brass check valve before I can hook up the reactor?

Can someone start from the beginning and explain this (the need for 2 check valves and the reactor coming with one that is useless)? Does it say in the intructions that I need to buy a brass check valve?

GEO recommends an additional brass check valve for safety's sake - as noted above it can save your regulator.

Well thats nice. I thought I had everything ordered or at my house and in the manual it says that I need to buy something else that's not included with the GEO?

What check valve is recommended? Am I safe to hook run the reactor for a few days until this part comes in the mail? Will a check valve from another reactor suffice as a back up? I'm curious to why a malfunctioning check valve would come with the reactor to begin with.

I can't answer most of your questions - I can only say I used one for several months w/o the back up valve & had no issues (turned the CO2 off many times).

Heck, I'm so bad I didn't even notice that warning in the directions until I sold it.

Codeman you do not need the brass check valve untill you run out of co2 , then the lack of pressure from the co2 tank allows the pressure from the saltwater to get into the co2 line, the plastic check valve might work , but they are not as dependable as a brass check valve.
You can get the brass check valve at Marine depot . If you get one be sure the ends are screwed in tight and sealed, mine wasnt and I didnt check it and lost a tank of co2 the first day.

Thanks for the info, Tony...yeah that is an expensive check valve. ErikS, most check valves for calcium reactors have a very low pressure rating before they open which raises the cost. Most check valves for this application open at <1psi. I'm not sure what the McMaster-Carr check valve is rated at.

But when you send the same check valve to marine depot, they can jack the cost up another 200% at least just because its used for a saltwater aquarium.

Just depends on which one marinedepot is selling, here are some of the higher quality ones from mcmaster.

Brass NSF-Certified Spring-Loaded Piston Check Valves with Metal Seats
ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¢ Maximum Pressure: 200 psi @ 300Ã"šÃ‚° F
ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¢ Cracking Pressure: 1 to 2 psi
ââ"šÂ¬Ã‚¢ Temperature Range: 33Ã"šÃ‚° to 300Ã"šÃ‚° F
NSF 61 certified for drinking water, these valves have a metal-to-metal seat. A spring-loaded conical-shaped piston ensures easy seating. Piston and spring are 300 series stainless steel.
Brass valves are rated for steam service with a maximum pressure of 50 psi @ 300Ã"šÃ‚° F. Connections: NPT female.

guys that one from marine depot says its for 1/8" tubing.......the CO2 tubing is 1/4" .........will it still work ?

NSF rating un-necessary. Brass need be safe for drinking, but since it's not reef safe anyway the point would be?

PSI rating is irrelevant to an extent also - cracking pressure would be an issue why? Anyone run their CO2 tank @ under 1psi? Most are run @ 10 - 20psi.

Item number - 7768K52

These air- and liquid-service check valves are offered with a variety of end connections. Body and piston are brass; spring is Type 302 stainless steel. Choose from Buna-N and Viton seat.

Cracking pressure is 1psi.

Also, can't use the one you listed - GEO is 1/4" OD tube (as are every single CA reactor I've seen)

they can jack the cost up another 200% at least just because its used for a saltwater aquarium.
Yeah, I got $20 says they're buying it from McMaster, slapping on a couple $1 fittings and jacking the price.

guys that one from marine depot says its for 1/8" tubing.......the CO2 tubing is 1/4" .........will it still work ?
That's 1/8" inside diameter tubing, 1/4" outside diameter tubing = standard CO2 tubing (another laugh - the "special CO2 proof" tubing = cheap thinwall black tubing....try Tygon)

I'll get that one the from McMaster.......I dont' see where it would offer the proper fittings for the co2 tubing (the male nipple on the check and then the compression fitting) What is that type of fitting called again ?
