Question for you guys...

I have a GEO-612 reactor but since I started using it, I realized that my CO2 needle valve on my regulator won't allow me to dial in a precise enough bubble rate. When I adjust it to 38 bubbles per minute over the next couple of days it either settles at 34 or 44 bubbles per minute instead. I just ordered a M3 (more precise needle valve) however it I'm not sure how to hook it up with my existing equipment. Here's my issue:

I currently have a Blueline CO2 reg / solenoid / needle valve. http://www.championlighting.com/pics/careactorpics/co2new.jpg . Notice that it has the bubble counter that screws on top of the needle valve? None of the precision needle valves have this screw on attachment; they only have a barbed tube attachment in its place. http://www.marinedepot.com/IMD/150/CO3151.jpg

My question is do I need to get a separate bubble counter (with suction cups) that has tube barbs on both ends? Or can I use the clear bubble viewer that is on the reactor itself? I never have used the one on the reactor and was wondering if it served the same function (bubble counting)? Do you guys have a separate bubble counter other than the one on the reactor? Is it necessary?

Codeman00, I have a blueline regulator and had the same problem. I ended up replacing the needle valve with a precision needle valve and it helped, but the bubble count still does not stay perfectly constant, however it is much more constant than the blueline needle valve kept it. To hook it all up I removed the blueline bubble counter and needle valve and screwed in the new precision needle valve (be sure to use teflon tape). Then I added a Aqua Medic bubble counter that I strapped to my reactor.

Soon to be in the club!!!

A few more weeks, lol...

I'm in the process of ordering a skimmer- just working out the kinks in things. I can't wait!!!!

I've not had a skimmer on my system and am looking forward to the difference!!!

bkelley02 - thanks, I have some grease for my underwater camera o-rings that I will try. I was so afraid to overtighten the top and crack something.

So you tried the grease and it worked? I confirmed with George and he said that's what he does in the shop too. :D Glad it helped. Nice cheap fix.

I really need help with my calcium reactor. After taking apart and putting it back together I cannot get the mag2 pump to stop leaking.
I have even tried 3 differant new Mag2 pumps. Everyone of them leaks. I guess they aren not made for external use?
The leak is at the base of where the pump head seals to the pump body.
3 new pumps all ahve the exact sae leak.
Is there something that needs to be done to these pumps first .

I emailed Geo, he got right back to me and recomended I switch to an Eheim pump, he is sending me an instal kit.

Tony, be very careful when tightening the NPT fitting into the Eheim pump. That plastic is very very delicate especially on the intake side.

premium aquatics, and salty critter are two that I know of off hand

Premium has the name brand Schuran as well as bulk that is a bit cheaper. I believe they are one in the same but not certain.
