Getting a custom tank

So i want to get a custom tank built with dimensions of 24x28x12
(the extra 4 inches are for like a in tank sump kind of design) I want some sort of a frag tank but it being a mix with display stuff. I really want LPS corals in it with some SPS and a clam.. i love torch, and hammer corals.. also hairy mushrooms are sweet. But do you guys know anywhere to go and put in my dimensions and or somewhere to call.. I was going to go to my LFS to do it and get estaminets from them but i also wanted to try independently..

I would also like the company to make an acrylic overflow into the "in tank sump" so that would be a plus for this if you guys have experience or know some company that can do this.

I would Do it myself but i don't trust myself lol. So please give me suggestions and comments please!

Miracles in Toronto are the closest and most reasonable "custom" place to get what you are looking for. ARC has all sorts of their custom tanks and deals with them directly......they can get you a quote, I'm pretty sure they are still a RC sponsor also, check out their website.

Your average hobbyist doesnt have the tools to properly assemble a glass tank. IMO its something best left to the professionals. In the end you probably won't save that much money diy.
 
Depending on how much room you want to devote to the sump area, you might be very limited to what you will be able to put in there. I personally never had all in one system but a friend of mine did and he was not too pleased and sold it in a very short time.
 
well i mean it would be 4x24x12 so it be like a 5 gallon tank.. but i just want my return, and lee's HOB CC skimmer in there and maybe some cheato for a fuge..

'Miracles' would be the obvious choice IMO.

FWIW if you're a noob at reef aquarium stuff custom aquariums aren't worth what you'll end up paying.

Make "standard equipment" work for you.

4 x 24 x 12 should be able to be a DIY if you do homework.

Isn't Lee's HOB CC skimmer basically useless?
Just do regular partial water changes!
 
If you really want these dimensions on a tank this small I might consider going with glass cages (no one hit me). Secondly you should round off your dimensions to reduce costs. If you get the bare tank built for cheap you can probably pay someone handy to make a section for a tunze 9002, some filter media and a heater.

Yeah well i went to ARC today put in the dimensions.. it ended up being 30x24x12 and im not going to have them make the sump area im just going to order 24x12 piece of black acrylic and make it myself to say 40$ and gary i dont think im a noob.. i've had a 75 gallon reef but i sold it for a smaller tank... also the sump is going to be 6x24x12 so its 7.4 gallons. it'll fit a standard HOB skimmer.. or i might just do weekly WC cause im making a "Dry hand" water change system.. By the way this tank is going to be BB for cleanliness issue and i really want LPS in this tank.... btw should i throw out the money for a mp10 vortech??? or mess around with other powerheads...
 
And im going to DIY stand.. anyone got any tips on a stand? I dont believe it will be that hard.. im going to have to make a build thread for this :)
 
When I build mine, I used pine wood for frame, wood glue, wood screws, and many many clamps. All the stuff you need is at Home Depot. Also I made a quick blueprint of what dimensions I wanted. I would say take your time and think about how you want it to look. I got my idea because my tank has a "smooth and rounded edge" look so I wanted to pass that to the stand. Be creative!
 
I haven't built any stands bigger than a 40B one. I've built 4 stands but they have all been small. One stand I built using 2x4's for the frame and then had some 3/4 hardwood ply that I skinned it with...way overkill and way heavy.

The last stands I've done, I ONLY used 3/4 ply. Search the DIY forum here...there are some decent stand-build threads.

As far as the MP-10 goes...I had one for a few months. I liked its small profile/footprint inside the display but IMO they are overpriced. I traded mine for alight fixture several months ago.
 
yeah that would be a bummer.. and I'll deffinatly check out the DIY forums. I think im going to get the mp 10 because i love torch corals and i know they love alot of flow so for the torch i'll pick up the big guns in the mp10
