Getting a mini carpet to release?

I have several of mini carpets around my tank. How are you guys getting them to release from the rock?

current on their foot.....i have heard ice cubes will work too..

How does the ice cube method work? I tried this in the pass and it seems to have made their base hard. Than I stopped since that kind of scared me.

if you can reach the foot...gently rubbing an ice cube on his foot should make him uncomfortable enough to move...i wouldnt do it for too long though...

by hard do you mean frozen like or retracted?

I'd say frozen. But the nem showed no signs of dieing or anything after I stopped messing around. It just went back to normal, I just felt a hard base.
