Today I lost my goldflake angel due to what I assume was a bacterial infection. Can anyone confirm? Last night I thought I saw the start of the discolored patch, and the fish would hang out with it's back in the airstone bubbles. In the morning before work, the patch was more noticeable. When I got home in the evening, it had died.
Untill last night, the only symptom that the fish had was an increased respiration rate. I did a couple of freshwater dips and a prazi-pro treatment. After the prazipro treatment I noticed some "sesame seed" looking things on the bottom of the Q-tank. Flukes, I assume? Can bacterial infections invade the gills? The fish never showed any tell tale ich signs ie. scratching, white spots ect.

That sucks. I lost one in QT about 6 months ago to what I thought was a bacterial infection and haven't tried a new one yet.

Mine looked different to yours though. Does this descibe it:

White patches, skin looks like it is peeling off or it might look like a bacterial infection on the body of the fish. Can advance to bloody patches or wounds.

That does sound like it. The picture on the link looks really similar. Before the red patch broke out, it did look kinda white and puffy. And the heavy breathing might well indicate paracites.
