gfo and carbon reactors?????

I know what they do....I just ordered the dual reactor kit from BRS.


My question is how many of u people use them/like them???

And is it overkill on a 30 gallon tank...also has a 20 gallon sump???


And if u do use a reactor any tips or tricks I should know about???

Here's my problem with the dual reactor: Carbon and GFO require different flow rates to work most effectively (Carbon being much higher). The dual reactor provides the same flow to both chambers.

Now, if you mod it and put a "T" in-between the two chambers and use a ball value on the open end of the T to bleed some flow off before entering the second chamber, you can get it to work decently, using carbon in the first chamber and GFO in the second.

GFO in the 1st chamber so it tumbles. Carbon in the 2nd. Some people prefer two separate reactors for this reason.

I run GFO in a TLF reactor at like 20GPH and it took care of all my algae and phosphate issues (along with RODI)

Question ...my red hair algae is getting crazier every day.....the reactor wont be in til next Monday Tuesday

I added a phosphate pad in my pump and doin water changes...after I get the reactor running will the red hair algae go away..or am I gonna have to remove it somehow...I used a Turkey baster. And sucked out a ton of the bubble algae..that was easy to remove I tried sucking up some of the red hair and that was a no go

IME hair algae does not go away by simply removing all of the food source. You have to get in there and get it out. Use the Turkey baster to blast it and then suck out as much as you can with water changes. Obviously just blasting it with the baster doesn't work so well because then it is left to float around and "plant roots" elsewhere.

One other thing with chemical filtration, whether it is carbon or GFO, start SLOWLY. I would personally add half the recommended dosage the first time of both items and keep the flow just fast enough to tumble the GFO, otherwise you may end up bleaching coral.

I just got 3 emerald crabs

I already. Had...a couple of blue leg hermits...coral banded shrimp..some Nassiras snails...2 cone shaped snails......I have a tiger snail in my sump...put him in their cause he would just run over the zoas sometimes

Flame angel

30gallon DT...20 gallon sump with refugium .....I have the tunze nano Skimmer ..I think its undersized ...mp10es ...DIY 26 Cree LED light.

If i was you go out and buy some Turbo Snails they can quickly eliminates large amounts of nuisance algae. It is particularly fond of hair algae and will consume mass quantities of it. Right now AA have them in stock at good price.
