Ggallon rating on equipment

im on the hunt for some new gear but slightly confused that im pricing the right size. for example, im looking at a kalk reactor thats rated for 300 gallons. now i will eventually have a total system volume of around 400 gal. however the display is a 125 gal tank. dispite the system volume i should only have a display of 125 gallons worth of calcium depletion. possibly another 55 gallons worth of frag tank much later on. still well under this reactors capacity.

am i looking at this right?

Yes you are. For something like a calcium reactor, kalk reactor etc, calculate the size based on what you depletion will be based on. You could have a 1000g sump but if your display is only 5g that's all the calcium you'll need to throw at the system (once its balanced initially of course)
