Ghetto Rig

no doubt..Id say top 3! And yes, id be single if that was my tank

HA! This is classic but so true. Me too probably.
I wish I had a picture of my old ghetto fab apt where I had metal chains hanging a 48" shop light over my 55g fw planted tank and my aluminum foil with clear tape reflector for my other tank's crappy light. Also remember tried making a canister filter out of a bucket. Didn't work so well under pressure so that idea got scrapped. Nice ghetto rigs everyone!

Sooooooo...On the left is my ATO sensor that I attached to a closet door floor brace. I personally consider this the best idea I've had so far- the brace is adjustable! I can move it up and down and it stays in place. So cool. It's zip-tied to an adjustable wire clamp that hangs on the edge of the tank.

Next to that is where the ATO dumps water into the sump portion of my AIO. Those 90 degree fittings are for small garden hoses :D And the pic below that is the egg crate I cut to fit perfectly over the sump section of my AIO. It's low profile and hides the stuff entering the sump. I'm very proud of this little project

I would just freeze some water bottles and drop those in the tank (still sealed) instead. That way you don't mess with the water just the temperature. But if you need to top off and have some clean water cubes i guess it works too...

I'd rename that emergency chiller :D

I've done the frozen bottles thing in college - can't afford a chiller. But the icecubes is in case of emergency heat spike.

I modified the method and would put the icecubes in large gallon bags so I can remove the fresh water bags after the ice melts. Being poor forces creativity :)

Okay, I think its high time to get some chick action.... I would like for you to pay close attention to a couple of things here.

1. Notice My nifty way of getting my precycled salt mix into the tanks.

2. I had some really nice support with the 2 x 4 stand, as in no actual support.

Does my lighting get disqualified from being ghetto because they are not in the hood?

I built a new wooden hood that I was going to suspend from aluminum tubing, but the wife hates the aluminum attached to the wall. So I got to keep the corals alive during the redesign. There is a T5 in the hood, but everything stayed closed up. So I taped the old led's to the front of the tank. Seems to be working, for now.

Take a cheap mini fridge from a garage sale and drill two holes in it, run a maxijet pump with the line running through the fridge, boom chiller
