Ghetto Rig

This is pretty ghetto:

Stu
You win the ghetto contest

I finally have something of value to contribute :D

This is my first foray into marines (Ive only had freshwater before)
Pics will follow with the Ghettoness but the first thing is my power situation, everything is plugged into multiboxes (powerstrips) sitting on the floor under the tank, my skimmer is a HOB AquaMedic unit that is so tempramental, it decided to start dribbling water which trickled down into the multibox, shorting things out, tripping the circuit breaker to the room, I was out at the time and my flatmates called me up (I was at work) to tell me "Your tank has exploded bro, theres water everywhere, its all f**k*d man!"
After 15min of over the phone fault finding everything was back to normal, the excess water shaken out, the multibox is still in service, it just has to stay lying flat or it shorts out again!

Yes I know better, Ill replace it eventually...

cant believe ive missed this thread for so long!

when i had display tank on main floor and sump etc in bsmt i used a scratched up reclaimed from a house i built garden tub for sump. it was about 65 gallons. used the drain to feed my sequence pump. had natural fall. lol. worked awesome!

My Ghetto Rig

This is my tank, its a 9 gallon with 70w metal halide and heavily modded Aqua Medic HOB Skimmer

Things are running along nicely, I just bought some more coral as the tank params are now nice and stable, its just slightly elevated phosphate that is causing some algae growth - Phosphate remover time!

Notice the overflow for the skimmer pump, its a cut up rigger from our loval brewery, yes it was put in after I had finished the contents! :spin2:

The power situation is entertaining, the skimmer leaks (I keep adding more and more silicon sealant, its down to the odd drip now) causing nice conductive water to dribble into the multiboxes on the floor, its taken the power out with a nice wee bang once or twice!

I have extra rock cycling, nitrate levels are almost zero so its soon time to add it to the tank!
Its a real pain having the holes in the sides of the box, it means every time I stub my toe on the box (at least 6 times daily) it spills out some water too!

Im often experimenting and testing out new LED solutions for my LED hood (Ill get around to it some day, buts its probably going to be equally ghetto)

The white camera is an IP camera thats part of my monitoring system/tank controller thats under construction, when something is detected to be out of parameters the plan is for it to text me so I can log-in to check on it :D

I feel at home in this thread!!
I hope that this is ghetto enough to qualify :spin3:

While very entertained by this thread, I feel its my duty to point out that 'drip loops' are actually very inexpensive.

Heck -- you can even use duct tape to get those power strips off the flow. Much safer, and still retains your ghetto charm. :beachbum:

hahaha I know :D The issue was water dribbling off the coffee table (stand) and dribbling directly into the boxes, I keep saying ill get around to screwing them to the underside of the table... You know how it goes!

I would be sleeping in the garge with the tank. If she can home to that. But f I wasn't married I would be posting pics in this thread.
