Ok so I finally went high tech lol and picked up a profilux and would like to no what levels should I be at for.
Redox
Ph
Conductivity

Many thanks

There are a lot of variables in any recommendation for parameters, most set-ups develop their own "sweet spots" over time.

However, in my reef (now 3 years old) my Profilux says:

Ph ...... from 8.32 to 8.45 (day/night variation)
Conductivity..... 52 Ms (equal to 35.0 salinity and somewhat temperature dependant due to density change with temperature.
Redox...the $64 question ! Many reefers dont use redox for a parameter, but I do. I dont use any absolute number but use it a a guide as to whether the water is improving or not. Typically I have Redox of 425 overnite, falling to 400 ish during the day.

well then something is really wrong in my tank or i just need to calibrate again. \\

PH 8.10
REDOX is at 179
conductivity still trying to learn how to calibrate it I sure wish the instruction were not so freaking complicated;

Is there anyway to stress test the redox ? Like if i dip probe in fresh water or new batch of salt water should i see different result?
Michael

trueblack I have always had problems with both of these probe.
conductivity never seems to stay stable enough or clean enough to read spot on
redox is garbage in my opinion as also doesn't read correctly or adapt to changes in the aquarium fast enough to tell any thing is wrong in system. I was told I have a ground fault issue. Well to sum it up I purchased GF Signet probes and controllers . This hobby grade equipment is just a toy. This is my opinion on this .

How did you do with your Phol's extra.

hahahaha I actually got it today and was thinking about telling you but got side tracked with trying to calibrate my conductivity probe and its nightmare. But it says add 1ml for every 25 gallons so that would be about 5 for me a day. I have decided to start real slow and add only 2mls every other day until i see its ok to continue,

As for the redox readings i am at 209 now and i did absolutely nothing and what i mean by this is i did not add my VSV OR PRODIBIO. from what i have read from many places that dosing carbon will actually lower redox.

But i still think its on the low side so this weekend i am going to change water LOL and see if there is a difference. But I can also say that i have been feeding heavy with mysis shrimp and squid and i may be over doing it.

Well only time will tell and if i can get the redox to the 400 mark I will let you know what i did. Oh quick note i also feed pappone every 10 days so this also maybe playing a role on low redox.

I think i am going to slow up on the feeding the fish and stop feeding the pappone change some serious water and see what happens. also keep up with carbon dosing and adding the new zeo product.

I do not think you can go wrong with a water change, the more I change the better the tank looks. I would say redox can change quite a bit with carbon dosing. I have noticed that feeding a good bit does benefit a reef tank, but on the other hand extra feeding will give more food for carbon dosing bacteria to grow and also make more co2 and other by products, lowering redox. It is not just redox but also the over all general health that can suffer, unwanted bacteria can make fishes eyes cloudy and harm your acros. I also think it is very important to keep kh around 7, at higher kh with carbon dosing it can cause stn. Do not worry too much about phol's with health of corals it really just darkens acros, can't say it is a dangerous additive. I personally do not does it every day just when acros are pale, about 2 x week.
