GHL Mitras Club

Can I order upgrade kits to Mitras LX 6200 from my 6100HV version?

Could you provide Hong Kong distrubitor to contact order this kit? Thank you!

Anyone got project files that they would be willing to share? Looking for a good one that shows off colors of corals and the Mitras themselfs.

Mitras

Mitras

I have 3-6100's over my 255. The dimensions of the aquarium are 6ft long, 29" deep and 27" wide. I have my mitras 7" off the water. I tried higher but I get shadowing and the corals didn't like it. I have had them since they came out. What I have noticed is that certain acro's do not have enough light unless they are above the mid water column. IF I raise the lights I will just get less par in the aquarium. The spread I have with the lights evenly placed across the aquarium works great for me only 7" above the water.

I have been debating on getting another one, and went to buy one the other day and seen that there was a one day sale that I missed out on, so now I'm not going to buy one. Mean while, the acros that I have about mid column have lost color and changed colors and are not really growing. I did an experiment and took one monti that I got from live aquarium and placed it in the sand. After a couple months it lost this green glow it had. When I put it 10" down in the water, over a couple months its glowing again.

Its really weird since I have a sunset monti in the sand that is glowing, and has been glowing since day one. Basically what Im seeing is that you need more light, and or fixtures for those acros or monti's that require allot of light. All of my LPS, and brains and chalices do well no matter where I put them. I have a big clam in the sand that seems to be unhappy due to loss of light, but its not dying or anything. Just my two cents. I think I need 4 on my setup in my mixed reef.

You can download mine here. The main photo period starts off on about 10K and gives the corals a good blast for a few hours before going into a higher Kelvin.

Hi all....what the main difference between the 6100 and the 6200....is the 6200 more blue ? It is only that ?
Thanks
David

Hi all,

Since a while I owe some pictures of my Mitras setup.
The tank size is 150x80x80 cm ( 59x31x31 in)

As you can see at the pictures I put 4 Mitras over this size of tank.
First I thought it was too much, and lit up just 3 to experiment a bit and it turned out that 4 fit more my taste. Not that there was a big sign of shadowing but with 4 it looks better. ;-)
By using a apoge PAR meter it confirmed that now I have a very homogenous light spread.

Further the hanging kit allows to move the lights if there will be a need. Already the two lights in the middle are a bit beck and the two on the sides are a bit more to the front, this is do to the aquascape.

Finally I build a switch socket to get the wiring under control and now I have also the ability to switch all off by one master-switch, or one by one to do e.g. a restart after an firmware update.

Great looking setup Monty. You have done a great job and your neatness is inspiring to say the least.

Thanks for sharing and GREAT idea on the "Gang Switch" platform.

Very nice Montyjack.
I have 3 Mitras over my tank which is 53x32x26. According to GHL and Sanjay Joshi's tests, we have one more light fixture than we really need.. I actually like having more point sources of light to reduce shadowing as perhaps you do as well..
I have a couple of questions for you since I don't have a light meter..
How high above the water are you hanging your lights, what setting do you have them set at- high output or high efficiency and what output % are you running each Mitras at?
Since this is my first experience with LEDs, I think I had my lights too bright at first and I found that my acropora a were a little pale- missing that colour punch I was used to with t5 and mh. I run mine on high efficiency mode and had them at 90%. Recently, I have raised them up two inches to 9 inches off the water and reduced the output to 80% and I think I am starting to see some color intensity returning to the corals.

reefmutt,

Well, what to say? You can't argue about taste. One can say it's a waste of money to have a pendant more than really needed. But"¦

My tank started up with LEDs. The Mitras recently replaced my DYI build. This was a classic 3:2 RB CW setup.

I hung them 8in (21cm)

To acclimate the inmates I set the Mitras to 50% in high efficiency mode first and now I'm at 60% and plan to rise it up a bit watching if the coral like it or not (growth e.g.). With 50% I was close to what the previous light was. In the corners of the tank I had 80-90 Par and on the center bottom 140-170 PAR. Now I have 110-130 and 190-200.
