GHL Mitras Club

All up and running, Profilux is controlling my Mitras. A heads up for anyone that has more than 12 illumination points in their LPC, it won't load properly into PLC. I spent most of today fiddling and Matthias solved the issue for me. I had 19 points in my file.

Do you have the 6100 or 6200 ?
Thanks

Wow...that was fast! Congrats Aaron. Any tips on what we should or shouldn't do to make the install go even smoother/faster?

Did you have to update to the latest firmware on the Mitras before using the PLM-PWC card? I'm using the PLC V6.0 but still using V114 on my Mitras.

My only hiccup was my light schedule having too many points so definitely load it in and check how many there are. If you do that you'll be fine, it's not very complicated. Mitras need to be on 1.15, there's a new version of GHL CC with it in.

GHL Mitras 6100 HV

Hi Guys,

Hope you don't mind me adding to this thread. I'm new to forums so not sure if there is a forum etiquette I should adhere to?

My GHL Mitras have just arrived and I'm currently trying to figure out what is the best light project to create for my system. My previous light unit was a ATI Dimmable Sunpower module 8 * 24w currently running at 75% (tank size 36*12*19) housing LPS, SPS & Softies. I have attached a few pics for your reference (T5's).

My first query is will I be ok to take my new lights to 65% at the highest point during the day, slowing increasing the brightness by 5% each week until I have achieved my maximum brightness? Also, how bright should I take these lights too?

Does anyone have a light project that I can play around with? I have the pre set one and also one I have created myself, It would just be interesting to see what you GHL masters are using?

I would really appreciate some help on this as I'm concerned that due to my lack of knowledge with these lights I will harm my corals.

One I have my lights/project operational and my corals are fully acclimatised to their new light source I'm happy to upload some pictures, if anyone is interested in seeing.

Any help or advice would be gratefully received.

Ben

bigbaddewulf,

Congrats on owning a Mitras!

I wouldn't set the target intensity to 100%, perhaps 60% with a mixed reef, just keep an eye on your corals and see how they react. If this is your first time dealing with Leds, I encourage you not to under estimate the power of the lights and start at maybe 40% and work your way up.

You do have the flexibility to change between High Efficiency to High Output, so if you want a slight bump up in overall brightness, set the light to High Output. Again, just keep an eye on the corals.

I would just add as compliment to the above that to the human eye, LEDs appear less bright than t5 or mh. So even though the light may seem more dim to you, your corals won't think so.
Personally, I would not put the lights on high output mode for your your lighting plan and tank inhabitants.
Starting at 45% in high efficiency mode and working up from there is a good plan but I'd also space out the increases by two weeks. Just to give yourself longer to observe any changes in the corals..
Just remember that damage to corals always happens much more quickly than the recovery...

Thanks guys, much appreciated.

Quick Q. I have heard of fellow reefers adding the occasional blast of hyper boiler during their lighting cycle. Is this something you guts have heard of? If so, how often and for what duration should I do this for?

Thanks in advance, Ben

+2 I raised my 3 Mitras from 8" to 15" AWL and increased the intensity from 80 to 100%. Fried 2 colonies of SPS and 1 frag in 4 days. :( the rest of the SPS also we're not happy.

Bigbaddewulf, if, by 'hyper boiler' you mean a strong peak in light intensity, I only have one that comes at the mid day of my light shedule. After seeing Aaron's results with his tank, I decided to add one to my schedule. However, I don't go full 100% all LEDs like I think he does..
Aaron has very good results, so he is doing something right..
I wouldn't play with that until the corals in your tank have fully acclimated to your Mitras, though..better off going slow and keeping the corals happy than trying to rush and getting poor results from the lights..

Thanks Matt, I actually meant to write Hypor voilet. stupid predictive txt!! I'm planning on taking things supper slow as I'm not in a rush and dont wont to harm my corlas. I was just wondering what type of temps to play around with.

Thanks

You can add it from the light unit itself under illumination. Or in GHL CC it's under simulation (I think). I usually just set it up on the lamp.
