Giant clam seeks large loving home

I've sold off the majority of my coral and clams but still need to find someone who can house a huge clam. This Derasa is as big as a football, and has a mantle extending 11-12" at it's length and 8-9" wide. This clam is also quite a grower, adding almost 3" in a year. I have this clam in my 150 gallon tank but that's the smallest tank I would use. I would also only recommend an established tank. While a clam this large is very hardy it also has a large calcium intake and requires stability. I already turned down a buyer based on tank size and age. A new tank or large parameter swings could kill this clam, resulting in hundreds of gallons of clam chowder :eek2:

Hey Ken,

I'll sell you your new tank at my cost in return for that clam :)

Very tempting Danny, but I have all my funds tied up in this house and the move right now. Plus I still haven't found a buyer for my 150g.

Making another plea to find my clam a good home. There are a few very important requirements to have this beauty in your tank.
1. A large tank, mine was a 150 gallons
2. Very stable supply of calcium
3. Very stable water parameters (not a new cycling tank)
4. Cash to buy him :D

I'm VERY negotiable on #4, however the other requirements are not. Even though I'm taking a few month off of this hobby while moving, it doesn't mean that I don't care about this animals health. Please take that into consideration when taking on this or any other creature. It is more important that this clam find a suitable home.

I've seen this clam in person and it's beautiful. And yes it IS the size of a football. Saw it close up while I was there and it caused a mini wave in the tank.

I'd have taken it but I'm tearing down my 400 for a move and wasn't sure I could keep him in my holding tank for long. Good luck with selling him Ken.

Wow! what a beauty!

wish I could take him, but my 8 inch Squamosa and 5 inch derasa are well on their way to becoming gargantuan specimens in a few years, and with luck, I will have to re-aquascape my 120 to accomodate them both! ( I have had them both on sandbed of a 20inch cube 35 gal directly under a 150 hqi for 7 months now and they have substantial new growth).

Good luck selling him. Hope he goes to a good home!
