Giant Skimmers

Where can I get a HUGE skimmer? like one that is 10foot tall and is 4 feet wide?

the size that wholesale places run and the size that public aquariums run...

don't confuse yourself with thinking you need a giant size skimmer for a system. some giant skimmer are not very good skimmers at all. I've seen 10' by 3' skimmers that only pulling 100 SCFH, that real bad for any kind of interface. the air to water ratio was horrible.

what size system is it for? and what are you keeping?

RK2 in san diego make them bigger than my house

we use a 7 or 8 foot one attached to a equal size fluidized sand filter on our system. Works great

Iammat219,

That first link was what I was looking for...

I am thinking the 100gpm model.

This skimmer is NOT FOR A LARGE AQUARIUM.

you should look at skimmers air to water ratio. maximum air to water interface is what you want. ive seen RK2 skimmers that flow 100 GPM though them but only 5% of the water was actualy seeing any air interface. not very effectictive. a large BK skimmers may have flow of 20 gpm but get 75% interface= 3 times more effective skimmer yet it is 1/5th the size.

Gallon per minite means nothing. your that relavant for old venturi skimmers not very relavant to NW or beckett skimmers.

what kind of bioload is it for?

I'm confused if your looking for a comercial skimmer and your not using it on a large aquarium than what are you using it on just bottled my mind on this. but MRC comm, grade you can push the heck out of them

Excuse my ignorance, what is RK, BK?

Bermuda looks good.

The bioload is pretty much only corals.. maybe 3 or 4 fish.. in about 3,000 or more gallons... so like I said, pretty much just corals..

This skimmer is for an aquaculture facility, not a large aquarium :)
But shhhh, you guys arent suppose to know that.

I would suggest an RK2, a lot of fish stores use them as there single protein skimmer for their combined system.

RK2 is a brand of Skimmers...
BK is Bubble King. Is one of the best skimmers made Commercially. MUCH!!! better performance than RK2.

Spazz's skimmers Are much closer to BK than R2k.
A dual Dart NW built by Spazz or any of the many awesome skimmer builders here will run circle around most of these Big venturi skimmers ive seem posted here.

But long term With electricity... A big RK2 venturi skimmer use about 5- 10 amp$$$ Plus, to run them. A Dual dart uses less than 2 amps. with commercial electricity rates that's probably more than $60- $100 per month difference.

If your budget Is Small the MRC commercial Get you some awesome bang for bucks. A MR6 recirc would rock also

I have never seen a needlewheel skimmer at any wholesale faclity nor any of the public aquarium facilities anywhere in So Cal. I would think that if performance was so great, venturi skimmers like RK2 and Bermuda would not be in business.
I can't even beleive you are attempting to compare a Dart needlewheel skimmer to an RK2 skimmer using a 5 - 10 amp pump. The RK2 would blow away the Dart needle wheel. Performance on those skimmers are miles apart. Don't get me wrong, needle wheel skimmers have their place. I'm just not sure that they have that advantage that you are implying when they are used in a commercial application.
