Giesemann/ATI T5 lamp comparison - pics, PAR, and a whole mess of data

I saw mention of the Apogee early on but was not clear if that is what you used for your PAR measurements. I reread it and still didn't notice. At least not to me. Sorry if I'm overlooking the obvious! :)

They used a Labsphere LMS-3M. An Apogee is not accurate enough for measurements like this, especially when it comes to 420nm actinic bulbs.

In my personal measurements, there was not a significant difference between it and the Coral Plus.

I ended up going with a giesemann aquapink in the front and and the actinic+ in the back. I tried several combinations of bulbs and this seemed to look the best and bring out some of the reds and purples in my sps. I really wonder about the coral plus though. I like having a brighter bulb in the front and was thinking about going with the coral plus but could not find it in stores around me. I wonder if it would be much brighter? Anyway, good to know that the PAR is similar to Coral Plus.

I would love to see/hear some experiences with the Giesemann tropic 6500k

Sorry to revive this old thread, but I was reading the data and thinking back on how giesemann equivalents of ATI bulbs are roughly the same (it was mentioned in this thread too). However, with a 60+ PAR difference between the ATI Blue+ and the Giesemann Actinic Blue, wouldn't someone running an 8 bulb fixture with half blue bulbs experience a significant drop in PAR when switching between the 2?

I was looking to switch to Giesemann in the hope that the increased actinic spectrum in the Actinic Blue would give my corals more pop than the Blue+, but the trade off seems immense.

Probably not enough of a drop to worry IMO. The numbers wouldn't compound all that much. For example, if you put 2 blue bulbs together the decreased PAR wouldn't equal 120

The Gieseman actinic would give off more PUR than a Blue+. Your tank might actually be getting more usable light with the actinic.

This post....how valid is it?

Technically, an actinic bulb is nearly 100% usable light. A blue bulb will have some unusable light but very little. I think it is in the 95-97% range.

I feel most people are too afraid to use actinic bulbs when in reality, they shouldn't be.

If one's aim is coral growth, then blue+ is far better compared to actinic. I use an actinic tube in my 8-tube powermodule and am very happy with it.

I like the blue+ although I read from time to time the giesemann super actinic is a bluer bulb without the "greenish tint" blue+ puts out(im not bothered by it, cant really tell its there even).

I do like the ATI actinic bulb and pop but I always read blue+ has the actinics with the advantage of higher par...therefore I wanted to ask from the post.

The ATI Actinic isn't far behind in terms of PAR actually. About 50 points is all. Again, I wouldn't be afraid to use them. I'm putting 2 in Giesemann fixture along with 2 blue plus and the Radium

Great thread.
Has anyone tried iquatics blue plus ? Is it the same as ATI blue plus
in terms of PAR and nm
