Gig la

Nem just had his first meal. About half a piece of Krill. Feeding response was great. Took it quickly, nothing adverse from the clowns at all. I caught the female the other day pic a piece of Mysis out of the water that was to large for her so she brought it over and spit it into the nem. She seems to be a good house keeper...wish the male would get with the program!

I wish frog.pauley would get on the ball with the video too.. LOL Just kidding.

Real glad things are working out with it!

Sorry guys lol Been really busy. Everything seems to still be doing great. Although every other fish in my tank hates my female clown. Even the midas blenny tries to get her. Seems they all have some beef with her. She antagonizes the tang, like na na na boo boo. She will go halfway across the tank to get his attention then dart back to the nem and look at him.

She may be trying to bait one of them into it to feed it.

It seems to eat good. Eats Mysis and enriched brine when it grabs some during feeding. I have fed krill once so far. What kind of feeding schedule do you guys recommend? Should I be feeding more right now while it is healing up?

Fed the nem Krill this evening while the others munched on their evening frozen. Feeding response is so quick. I am worried one of my pajama cardinals is goona get the ax! They seem to have no fear and stay in close proximity to the nem. I am guessing if this keeps quuen of the gig will boot everyone lol!

The nem gave me a scare last night. Not sure what happened but right at lights out, it shrunk up and had its mouth open quite a bit. It did its shrinking up like a mag thing and was fine after a short period. No problems today, but im kinda worried. I did a WC today, was a day late so may be that's what it needed.

Gig is still doing great. It is def the tank barometer. The slightest thing wrong and it shows quickly. It has colored up really nice. Still hosting the female perc only. She seems to want to beat the crap out of the male every evening. Hoping they chill out.
One thing that happened, the gig ate kole tang. Had him for over a year. He had the run of the tank for that time. He didnt take well to tank mates and went downhill fast after the stocking was happening. I dunno if he was dead before the nem got him, but the tang is gone.

Got a video or a pic?

May try to get a new vid. Haven't taken any recently. The tank seems a little dull without the tang. Oh well, should be moving this summer, bigger house=bigger tank! Hoping to have the room to join the big boy club. I am not sure i can deal with anything over 240...hehehe. We shall see what kind of room I have then. I am hoping for enough space to ahve a 240 plus and a nice sized equipment room.

Coming up on 8 months!

Coming up on 8 months!

It has finally moved up in the tank to the highest point. Still is doing great. Def tells me when i am being lazy! I have so much going on to try and keep up with the thread, but I will post periodically.

Thanks for the update. Great job! I know there were some rocky times during the QT process, but you maintained protocol and your hard work paid off. For some reason, I had a really good feeling about this particular gig. It's so nice to see that it's still doing well.

So fellow reefers!....I am a bad care taker! But if I actually get through this i am gonna right a huge post! GIG's for dummies written by a Dummy!
Due to the time of year..... annnndd my laziness, I slacked on water changes and have nitrates go way too high. The nem is showing its displeasure! It has been looking rough. At lights out its almost invisible.

I have been doing water changes as fast as i can make it and heat it. Every change the nem is looking better and better. So fingers crossed I haven't killed it. Trying to do this as gentle as possible. Will update with the outcome.

Me-2 Nitrates and buble algae 0!

Me-2 Nitrates and buble algae 0!

So I have scored a few wins since my last post. I have been hard it! Doing weekly and sometimes bi-weekly wc's, working on my husbandry, and just enjoying my tank. As previously stated, I got lazy and down over the tank a while back. It was looking bad and i wasnt gaining ground. I decided to do all i could to fix it. Bubble algae got to plague status...another kick in the boys. Manual removal, was slowing it but not stopping, emerald crabs seemed to not care. So i got more aggressive. I took a few rocks out, grabbed a tooth brush, and went to work. I have marco rocks, it was a task to say the least. I kept up aggressively skimming, wc, manual removal, all the while feeding my fish more! Nitrates were reading above 10 anytime I checked. I started dosing vodka. It caused my sump to look like a swamp! The nastiness stinky slime you can imagine. But only in my fuge. I stopped dosing after about 5 weeks. Nitrate still 10+ all the time.
I woke one morning and just looked over at the tank as the led's were coming up...no bubble algae! Gone! I searched and found none in the tank. Yes there was still a little in the overflows and maybe some in the sump, but you can imagine my excitement! But the nitrates were still above 10.
It has been that way for a few weeks. Nothing of nuisance in the display. Fuge looked like death. Due to a design flaw on my part, my sump was never meant to be removed, bad! I was reading yesterday on RC and found a thread about cleaning the gunk outa the sump. "I'm gonna try that." So after some rigging and busted fingers i got it out and into the sink...NASTY! Wow the funk was horrid! I cleaned the sump...I mean sprayed the gunk out, scraped the glass, and scrubbed...This morning...Undetectable Nitrates! Bam! take that! Maybe I should put my filter sock back....nah.
Back to the nem. It has never fully recovered from my laziness. It looks alot better, but not shaggy. Today, I have more extended tentacles, a more inflated nem altogether. Hoping to have some pic updates and some more good news.
