Gig la

I get what he is saying. The WC in the Anemone QT tank will result in a WC in the main DT.

Yeah. Keep doing it. It is a bit of extra love. Keep an eye and see what stuff is really happy over it, too.

Which part of WV?

Just outside Beckley(wasn't part of the contaminated area) lol. Lights will be on in a sec, but he is still up and looking good!

Not too thrilled when lights came on this morning. Not a total deflate, but not happy. Mouth is finally closed up good. Still going ok I reckon.

Been a long day! Had to do a 50% water change at 3 oclock this afternoon. Nem mostly deflated and was looking rough, ammonia registered so did water change and he perked back up. Has been looking great since. Wish the mouth would close up, but still got a few more days. Pics are right after water change and 250mg cipro. Lights out and hes looking great! Up dates in the am.

As far as light acclimation, hes under a 150 MH. Which given the water depthe and the height from tank is pretty intense, he seems to be fine as far as lights go. When it goes in the display it will be under rapids Onyx fixtures controlled by apex. Be interesting to see how it acclimates to LEDs.

Woke up this morning to it completely retracted into itself like a Mag does. As soon as the lights came on (actinic only) it opened up but has not inflated. The halides do no come on for another 50 min. Why would it do this? Gig is not supposed to retract at all right?
Also would like to ask. When Nem deflates or starts to look rough, does one just ride it out till water change or change then. I am wondering If the nem doesn't like the cipro. Yesterday when I changed 50%, a few minutes later he perked up and looked fantastic and stayed that way all evening. Woke up to him retracted. Lights will go up in about 20 min. Looks like he is slowly inflating now.

It still recognizes the light and uses it for energy though.

Any pictures this am?

I wonder if it is more ready to be released. I will try to look back but I wonder what OrionN and them say about just not doing cipro for a day.

Is it good/uptodate cipro? Not a knockoff or anything is it?

Using Fishlife Ciprofloxacin. 500mg tabs, been cutting in half. Light on and its fully inflated, but not picking its self off the cup. Did spew some more dead zooanthella this morning after lights on. Immediately sucked out with turkey baster. Just kinda odd that it was so retracted this morning. Looked like a small mag sucked into itself. I don't want to stop cipro yet as I'm not convinced the nem is clear of infection yet. The cipro does cloud the water up pretty good. Noticed last night the change from tank water change to dissolving the cipro. I will see what OrionN has to say. Wish I would have gotten pics this morning, but was really groggy and this old soldier hadn't had coffee!

To me it looks like it is doing a good job. You see it more often than we do though... and know the changes.

Pics are from 10:30 am. Lights have been on for around 2 hours now. Lights are 16" off the water surface. Fixter has 2 150w MH DE 14,000k bulbs and 2 4" Actinic PC bulbs. Does anyone think I should Lower the fixture more? 4' fixture is an old Outer Orbit fixture, but the bulbs don't have much time on them. I know its huge hanging over a small tank lol, but working with what I got. Nem is sitting directly under one of the Halides.

Changes are very little. Yesterday afternoon was the worst. Only lasted about an hour before I decided to do the 50% water change, then within another hour it was back better than it looks now. Should have taken pics in hindsight. This morning, I really am not sure what was going on. It was retracted so much...Hadnt seen that yet.

I just wrote about this in my thread. I noticed that my gigs ball up like mags do, and I think it has more to do with their small size. My larger gigs never did this. If I were to guess the reason, it would be that larger gig simply don't have the energy to move such a large mass, or it doesn't make sense to expend the energy to do so, while small gigs, being physically smaller just have the ability to do it. I hope that makes sense. Also, larger gig have an easier time expelling waste, so they don't need to ball up.

For me. It only happens when I clean the tank and stir up detritus. It almost appears to be a protection mechanism -- they close up and literally seal themselves up to not have to take in dirty water. A few minutes later, and they all open back up. But they also release what looks like detritus covered mucus, similar to what you may find around the base of the nem.

In my case, it actually appears perfectly normal. I can predict when it will happen and I can also predict when they will reinflate. It was scary watching it the first time it happened because I thought something was terribly wrong. And thinking back, I had another smaller gig that balled up as well, and it ended up acclimating well.

Another reason I think they do this is to expel waste. I'm guessing the inward and then outward motion helps to collect waste, then push it out. I'm willing to bet that when your gig did this, it spewed out a bunch of waste.

Finally, as to why your gig did it and if it was a reaction to Cipro, my guess is that Cipro is killing the bacteria within the nem that's causing the zoox to die. While doing this, it's creating waste within the nem, both dead bacteria was well as dead zoox, and your nem was trying to purge it. So, I think it's an indirect reaction to Cipro. You may want to consider tapering off the dosage though. Based on previous experience I think there is a tipping point where too much Cipro can actually cause negative effects. Maybe it starts to kill beneficial bacteria as well. I equate it to chemotherapy for cancer patients.

I wouldn't consider this a set back. Keep chugging along and if the gig doesn't fully deflate, I think it will be fine.

D-Nak, when your come out of the ball, do they come out inflated? Mine took a good hour or so to fully inflate back up. When it first came out of the ball it was flattened sitting on its foot, no humps or anything. When it did inflate it spewed out a little bit of junk but nothing major.
