Gig la

So, did a 100% WC, added 250mg cipro. No immediate reaction to the cipro. Mouth is closed, but still deflated. Was doing so good, I feel like I missed something...

It took an hour or so but the nem did finally perk back up and inflate fully. Full inflation he is about 6" across. Covers the complete over sized soup cup with some over hang. If he stays big and beautiful, I will take pics. Feel like I am jinxing myself taking pics when its opened all the way.

Been looking better by the minute. Looking better than this now. Mouth finally closed up and is the largest it has been. Got a bunch of stringy goo off its foot again. Was able to really get it because it finally lifted up. It looks better now than when I took the pic. There is daylight all the way around the base. Its holding up good. May do another vid later, especially if it continues to looks good. Hoping I finally got it whupped!

WOW. Yes I agree it does look good. That junk it is expelling would cause the ammonia to increase, so good thing on the extra water changes.

How do you think it will be in the tank?

Well no sooner than I posted that pic, I make the 8 foot trek over to the HT. Nem crinkles up, takes a good ole fashion Hollywood dump(wich was sucked up on the spot) and re-inflates to beauty again. I think we may be making progress! No matter how bad I want to change protocol, I know OrionN is the expert and Im staying the course! 100% WC and cipro in about 3 hours. Hopefully will be the last dose. Will be number 8. If so I will replace bio filter from my sump and leave in QT for a day or 2 to see if it really is 100% recuperated.

As fr as in the tank, the original plan was a mag. I never thought I would catch a gig on LA when the circumstances were right. I was considering paying the fortune from ibluewater. So I have a big rock with a flat top sitting up high all by itself....hoping it like the spot. High up in my tank is about halfway up the water column.

Very nice.

On my new 265 I am trying to plan out what/where I want mine to 'attempt' to call home. LOL

Sounds like the perfect rock for a mag. However, for a gig, find one with a hole where it can bury its foot.

The rock is actually not flat, it does have a concave shape to it. I do have another spot that may be better for the gig...next level down under other rock lol. If it resides in the lower rock, not sure if I can put anything else on the other.

Just completed evening water change and meds. Nem has looked spectacular today. Just before WC it retracted again and opened it mouth up. After WC it has the Mag look again. Assuming it will come out in a bit. Hopefully tomorrow is the day it stays open...Looking at over a foot of snow and that means possible power outages here. If murphy has his way the nem will have to go in the display. My generator would be pulling double time on the whole house and running necessary equipment on the display....the outer orbit fixture would not be able to run as well I don't think. What can go wrong, will go wrong! yay!

I've got no experience with Gigs, but I've been keeping H.magnifica's for the past 9 years.
I've got three, and have brought two of them back from the brink after shipping stress and once from bad heater, (bad like didnt work and temps dropped down to the 50's for several nights in a row...both nems bleached completely).

One of the thing I've learned in my experiences with H.magnifica in bad health is that weak/newly acclimated anemones are NOT helped by having clowns in the tank with them.

Clowns will steal food from the nem that it has expended energy trying to eat....meaning a net loss to the anemone after energy to eat is expended only to have the clown rip the food from it.

My suggestion would be to keep clowns away from the new nem until its got all of its zoox back...this way clowns stealing food from the nem doesnt hurt them since it can make up the loss of energy by photosynthesis.

Just my thought and experiences in the matter...

I am more concerned that my tank bred Picasso Clownfish will take forever to find their home. Nem is doing good. I am sure now its in really good shape. Will do full Water change tomorrow, clean everything, install biofilters, and see what happens.

Good luck and look out for the snow. We are getting it after you. Headed straight for us. We are supposed to get 10+ inches. I am south of DC.

HAHA we are looking at 18 to 20 now! Awsome! Kids will be home all week! Another YAY! I, stock on human food, fish, dog, cat, lizard, and snake food! Bring it!

Weather...forgot morning update. Lights are not on yet. Nem is crinkled down to its small size. It took well over an hour to come out of the Mag looking stuper last night, but when it did....WOW! Was amazing. 6-8" across, mouth closed, tentacles were extended. It looked great. Was still that way after I went nighty to. Hopin he comes back up with the lights on.

The clowns will find the anemone quickly.

No worries there.

Seriously.

I've got a pair of Rod's Onyx Percs, and pair of black occellaris clowns, additionally, I had a pair of Picasso's which I sold to a friend after they began breeding......

None of my clowns were ever in the ocean, and none of them ever had any issues finding or get acclimated to my anemones.....

I think the issue comes into when tank bred clowns are kept with non natural host anemones for them, (M.doreensis anemones/LTA's with occellaris clowns etc).

Trust me, you're going to feel horrible if you go through all of this work to get the anemone acclimated and surviving shipping only to have the clowns abuse it.

Unless you're using the worlds largest coffee cup, that's a small anemone. Clowns will exert a significant stress on the anemone and I'd hate for you to loose it.

lol he is small, and yes the coffee cup is enormous. Its actually a large ceramic soup cup. My new percs are very small as well. less than 2 inches. I will be in close observation around feeding time, and their behavior. If they abuse, they will be put in the prison (fuge) for a while till the nem is strong enough to handle them.

By the way...Minh is a show off! That green is amazing! Hope mine colors up that good!
After inflation this morning, it hasn't looked back. Fully up and inflated looking great. Got aboit 8" of snow already and the storm is just getting started. Hopin the power stays on!

I keep my finger cross for you. Hope the power stay on for you.
I just instated a automatic full house generator using Natural gass. I am all set for the hurricane season.

Seems to be working itself through an issue right now. Deflated a bit for a while. Perking back up now. NSW should be good soon so a full WC is in the near future. I make around 30 gallons at a time.
Power still goin. All roads shutdown to include the major highways. Have gotten 10 to 12 inches today already...yay!

Hey Frog... show us some pictures.

Of Anemone and SNOW. We just started to get it here... and it has already covered the cars.
