Gig mouth disappeared!!

Afternoon,
Checked my gig this morning and thought that it had eaten the moult from my porcelain crab. I turned off the powerheads and return pump and looked down and so that where the mouth usually is has now been replaced with the rock beneath it!! The gig has been looking better than ever recently with no deflation at all.
Any idea what it could be?? I doubt that it is reproducing by fission although I would hate to think it is going down hill!
Help would be much appreciated.

Are you absolutely positive that it's the rock that showing though? It's not a small rock that fell into it possibly, and it's trying to spit it out? I've never seen a gig with a hole in it, nor have I seen one survive where it had damage though the foot. Your gig looks very healthy as well, this is a strange predicament.

I agree, even if it has sealed around the rock and it using it like a base, that is a bad thing. Any wrong movement and it will never be able to get it's internal pressure stable and will die.

Wait... after looking a bit more... is that food that has been digested and ready to come out? I mean it is not like we sit over the gig all the time right before it is ready to get rid of the items, normally we see it string out.

Try using a baster and gently blow water around his mouth to see if you can get a better idea of what it is.

Thanks for the replies. I used a long rod to gently prod at the hole to see if it was soft or if there was any movement at all to what was there. It was rock solid (excuse the pun) and did not move which is why I came to the conclusion of it being rock underneath.
This morning however the mouth seems to have closed up tight again so I have no idea what to think!!

From the third photo I was going to say it just looks like undigested food, but if your saying its rock hard?????
It looks really healthy so if it is the rock underneath, then maybe something else is happening.
Please keep us up to date if anything changes
