Gig updates

Taylor T. You should post pics of your filtration/set up for all the gig lovers. Yours look great...and so much for only being able to keep just one per aquarium !!

we are hoping it will turn to green but even in the wild, it has the yellow hue. Nice shots Dave.
Thanks! Pete, remember this one from years ago? I think it was dyed, (and died), it looked yellow on everything. BC (before cipro) This was the yellowest (is this a word?) gig I ever saw. Even the mouth was colored.

Pete, how are your gigs coloring up?

Yellow is really rare. It would be nice IMO if he turn yellow
It could be some greens have the potential to look yellow when healthy, in the right lighting? It does have a yellow tint to it in regular daylight (I have a window behind the tank). I'm happy they are just healthy! :) But the greens are different, could be different water? Could be one's been with me a year longer? I don't know.

Here's the 75 gallon green gig again, no 5K spots, so it looks green. Same photo as above.

210 green gig, no 5K spot.

I posted them close so you can scroll and compare next to each other. Even with the 5K spot, the 210 green gig looks green.

I think the colored portion of the tents are gaining. To my eyes, it seems like the plain Jane home center LED lamps work well. Are you seeing this too Pete? Update your post with some close ups of your gig tents. :)

For kicks, here's this purple when I first got it.

Anyways, here's the same purple today.

It kind of looks like a folded taco sometimes. Look at the colored tips, and lately it's been coming out more. I think that's why the tips have more color on the outside of it, the inside of the gig didn't see as much light.

ok, 2 more. one more of the yellow. Maybe it's just me, but it looks to me like the color has worked deeper towards the disk more, the last month or so? Maybe I'm putting too much credit to my cheap 5k LED lights?

Thanks! If I fed them more, I think they may grow.
My tanks are really simple. It goes like this:
Tank water overflows to 30 gallon sump, some goes through a skimmer, then it gets pumped back up. That's it. No reactors, no fuge on the 75, but macro out of control in the display gets sucked up with water changes, (fuge on the 210), no filter sock. It's really as bare bones simple as you can go. My sumps collect crud that I suck out with a water change once in a while, but not very often. I've been manually topping off with a cup (sad I know), my ATO broke a while ago, and I've been 2-part dosing for a long while now. Both tanks get anywhere from 15-25ml a day, it varies (I'm not exact with it). What surprises me is that the 75 gallon tank uses the same amount of 2-part as the 210. I suppose a 2' anemone blocking all the rock keeps it from needing it.

Not very exciting, but here's the 75 sump. Yellow cord is battery backup for skimmer, return, and mp40. I have both tanks on a battery backup I made with 3 deep cycle marine batteries with true sine wave 2000 watt inverter . 21 hours run time for both tanks to keep essentials running. Generator is for longer outages. For both tanks, 400 watts total (about). Instantaneous change over, power loss closes a different set of contacts, restore opens. I don't have to be home for things to keep running. I'll usually start the generator if I'm home for the ref, furnace, or tv though.
Back to my sump... Left side:

Right side.

Very basic.

The only difference with the 210 and 75, the 210 has a 20 long that's just a deep sand bed, no light, and the 210 has a fuge. The fuge grows cheato so fast, it's so thick, it's been causing me problems lately. Cyno grows really well in the display when the cheato gets so thick, the stuff on the bottom decays, adds crud to the water. Finding time to keep it in check is a real hassle.
Lots of tiny bubbles on top. Since the Bears suck so bad this year, maybe I'll clean my tanks tomorrow instead of watching.

Both tanks are really pretty basic. Not much fancy, no reactors. No filter socks.

Yes I remember the tents of the purples were cut, wish I took a pic of it but will investigate and post some pics, hope the Anemone did not rotate so I could get one. Great job rehabbing that yellow, I would call Dave, the nem whisperer, got my guys back online. :)

Here is the purple that was cut, you could still see the line

and I posted a pic of my blue in treatment on my thread.

Pete, that guy's color looks too good to get an infection. What was your KH? What was your flow like when you pulled it? Before pulling it, I would have added another powerhead and pounded it for a day to see how it reacted, before meds.
