Good evening all

We'll so far so good

We did have a little hick up along the way but are hoping it will all turn out okay.The yellow one seems to really not like 14k bulbs..After seeing everyone else's something semed off with mine. I knew it wasn't flow and the bulb was new but its tentacles were all short . He was always big and the mouth was closed he just looked off.

So then we bought a purple one and the first one we got perished as it was shipped in correctly but the second one we got was beautiful from day one. Really long tentacles mouth tight and big folds on him. He likes to "Stand" up on the rock like a tree...lol

So after we got him i knew something was up with the yellow one. So i changed the bulb to a xm 10k and he has perked up every since.

The video i attached is just after i changed the bulbs out so the yellow has still got his stubby tentacles but it gives you an idea of the size of the purple.

Any idea why they can get the stubby tentacles but still be big and open and a closed mouth? Was it the bulb or just a coincidence?

wow, looking good


from other nems ( experts please correct me if i'm wrong ) , usually smaller tentacles means they need food. is the green ( or yellow ) nem eating well??


as for the bulb, i really don't know but i have had several discussion about shallow water clams and 20K bulbs. species ( nems, clams whatever ) that live in very shallow water do so for a reason and a 10K bulb much better simulates natural lighting conditions. i am currently running a 14K and my anemone seems to like it alright but i would be running a 10K if i didn't dislike the yellow tinge so much.

He is eating okay. But i agree he looks hungry. But unless i feed him daily which i am a little scared to doas i am worried about bacteria infections i am not entirely sure what to do.

And ya the bulb could just be a coincidence that he started to look better.

I don't know..lol

He's not dieing i don't think. He is still big and and extremly sticky. Like tentacles come off sticky when you brush up against him.Mouth is still tight and he does eat. He just has stubby tentacles

Okay here is a question.

I am in the middle of moving and was going to put both nems in there own tank.

What i am wanting to do is put them in a breeder type tank with 2 175 watt halides over them in lumenbrite reflectors.

Would that work? If i made sure that the tank was shallow enough.

And if so how shallow would you all suggest?

My older two are in a 12" tall tank (24x24x12) under a single 175. I'm using an Iwasaki 15k and the bulb is everything they say it is. I'm hoping to do something similar when my tank room construction is done, maybe max 15" tall and 2x175's (the big tank is earmarked for 3x400 and I'm a little gunshy on the electrical bill, so I'm not wanting to do a whole lot of wattage.)

Having a 12" tall tank I would personally suggest going a little taller than 12. It's really hard to photograph (there's a reason you don't see me posting pictures of those two anemones ), and I have an eggcrate top because it'd be way too easy for the clowns to jump out (I lost a clown to carpet surfing once, so even clowns can jump occasionally).

14" to 16" would make a nice shallow tank though!
