Gigantea with Red Lipstick?

As a general rule, I've always thought only Haddoni had the red ring around their mouth. Until I acquired this Gigantea I ordered through my lfs. What do you think, Haddoni with Blue Verracue, or Gigantea with lipstick?

Id like to see the anemone after its had six months to a year to settle in. I'd call it a gigantea, though. There are rumors of hybrids, so I don't think that can be ruled out either.

I also have seen a gig with red lip stick. I've seen it with my own eyes in person.
I would guess that one you posted is also a gig. But that lipstick isnt' very red in that pic. Looks like that "lipstick" may disappear too, once that anemone either dies, or regains it's health and closes it's mouth the way it's supposed to be.

The tentacles look very haddoni-ish to me, especially in the first pic. The verracue don't look very gigantea-ish to me either. Most gigs have more elongated spots and not nearly so round. Is the entire base of the anemone blue?

This may be one that you will have to wait until it gets fully acclimated and even then you would have to see it in person. (how's that for a cop out :) )

Beautiful anemone either way. I'm not sure how that lipstick could be any more red.

The whole base of the anemone is blue, which is another thing that screams gig to me. I dunno, really. Guess it will stay a mystery. I'll post updated pictures as it gets better acclimated.

I agree that it looks very Haddoni, If the entire base is blue it would make sense also since the spots on a Haddoni are pretty much transparent unless looking at it from the right angle. It very well could be a Gig but for now I'm saying haddoni just from the appearance and the verrucae being the same color as the base. FWIW when I first got my S. Haddoni it's tenticles looked rather elongated like the one above until it settled in.

That must be a stunning anemone. I had a haddoni that had a purple column. Please do keep posting pics.
Are there any clowns in the tank? I would expect a wild caught perc to go directly into it if it were a gig. If it was a haddoni, it would take longer. This test would not be valid if the clown had already accepted a non natural host like a BTA.

I've been at work for a long time, I'll update with new pictures tomorrow. Haven't seen it since yesterday but it was looking good and had the mouth closed tightly.

BTW, I've seen the exact same color on a lot of haddoni I have seen in the past few months. Most I've seen on DD described as purple green haddoni.

I stumbled across an image on Route 66's FB page too. The species name is not listed, but if I were to guess, I'd say they were all haddoni. The one closest to the camera could be a gig.

In the second pic, of the first post, some of the tentacles are curved, but they're not curved in the same direction. It seems very random. As if the anemone is wiggling its tentacles. If this anemone wiggles its tentacles when the flow is low, its gigantea.

Updated Pictures after 2 weeks in my care. By all outward appearances it's doing great. Eating well, never deflating, but still has me confused to an id.

Very strange. It does not have gigantea verrucae. It almost looks like a blue-based haddoni. Haddonis DO have verrucae - they just aren't very visible on the normal tan base. This anemone is outside my normal experience :)

Bonsai,

I have 100 percent without a doubt seen a gigantea with that color base. The base color turned to tan after a couple weeks.

My gig has the same blue color base. But the verrucae are more oblong than round.

I read Bonsai's post to mean that haddoni usually have a tan base.

How about the tentacles? Do they "vibrate" if you turn off the flow in the tank?

Could this possibly be a hybrid that I've read about? I guess we'll need to give it more time to settle in. I'd say we check again in about a month. My experience with gigantea tells me that it'll either be flourishing or dead at the one month mark.

Gigantea

Gigantea

Its 120 percent gigantea.

I am sure there is hybrids but this is not one of them.

I have seen at least 20 gigantea with that color base. on a side note most dont live.
