Gigas trouble

My gigas, ~8", started showing signs of something.

The mantle still retracts and extends when you pass your hand over it. The shell has been too big to close for years. I've had this clam since 2003 and this is the first time its had any problems.

A semi-close up. Due to the positioning of the clam in my tank its really hard to get sharp photos

The other 14 clams in the tank are all fine. Nothing picks, or nips at it or any other clam. I haven't seen anything like this before. If I am not mistaken when clams usually die you see their whole mantle sink into the shell. I've never even heard of anything like this.

In photo one, I can see some stringy substance coming off the shell. Is this from those clam-eating snails? I heard they lay there eggs in "strings".

You may be seeing cheato that has had all is chlorophyll sucked out by my fish. They like to eat, and then crap out cheato all over the tank. I have plans to scrub the clam just to be sure.

Anything else that you see?

The clam has looked just like the above photo until earlier today. We moved the tank this afternoon, and so far its been doing just fine in a temporary holding tank. I will try for some photos later tonight possibly. I still need to transfer everything from our temporary holding tank into my tank again.
