Gilleleje Reef - 300 Gallon SPS from Denmark

Yes I meant the advanced aquarist. My bad sir.

No problem, these days things happens very fast.

The article in advance Aquarist, i didnt even know about - and one evening(i was drinking som nice redwine) a very good friend Dino called, and told me about the article.

For an hour I didnt beleive him - I thought it was a joke :)
But, it was truly an honor.

Have a nice weekend:beer:

Any updates? :inlove: love the tank

Hi Adrian,

Thx, here just 1 pic -2 minutes old.
What I have changed lately is to have more nutrients in my tank, and have No3 as high as 5.

Reasons for this is, before only my SPS was healthy, now LPS are super happy too :)

Peder

That's my goal to have my nitrates between 2-5 because they also keep phosphates in check too. Tank looks good and I agree the LPS look very happy.

An amazing reef system my friend. Beautiful corals and a very natural looking display. Excellent work!

As many people have said it earlier, yours is truly a beautiful tank and truly inspirational. I feel personally much inspired and happy to see this tank for many reasons; including that I have just set up a similar sized tank (150cm x 120cm x 75cm) and that i have decided to go with similar light (maxspect razors) and your tank goes to show what can be achieved with it. As a beginner in this experience (with tank being about 2 months old) i have many questions and I feel that you would be able help me with few specific questions.

1. Could you describe your method of using lanthanum chloride and how you arrived at it.
2. How high above the water line do you keep the lights.
3. What percentage of channel 1 (white) and Channel 2 (blue) do you keep your lights at.

What other suggestions will you have from your first 6 months of the tank besides the ULN experience of zeobak. I do not use or plan to use zeobak or any other ULN experience. I am hoping to keep nitrates like yours (below 20 but detectable). I currently use ROWAphos for phosphate reduction and used Carbon (TLF) for clearing up water some. Besides i plan to rely on skimming and big refugium (300 liters) with cryptic zone for benthic organism and Deep Sand bed. I do plan to start using balling but i am thinking of a simplified form as a three part solution or similar approach. I am also interested in learning more about adding frequent bacterial products and/or adding frequent Pods (like copepods) in the tank.

I am sorry, but i do not like the looks of this tank at all..
1. Your corals are way to big!
2. all that color really hurts the eyes, its not pleasant to look at!
3. The sheer variety of corals is really confusing.. not something i would aim for.

Plus it would make a nice addition if you chop up some xenia and throw in there to grow in between all your corals! :hmm4: :hmm4:

And by the way, none of what i just wrote is true...

Simply amazing my friend

Silas

Hi

I started to use Seaklear due to the infothread here on RC.
In the beginning i dosed 5 ML once wekly - but now i dont dose anymore.
The reason is that I personally think we look at Po4 as the enemy, and often we forget that its also needed in the tank - not too high though ....

Remember that our corals need much more than just light for nutrition.

So today seaklear is on the shelf, ready for use, if needed.

My lampsystem is about 30 cm over the waterlevel.
But my system is connected to a motordriven lift, so I can raise it up to 1 meter over the water.

That is needed if I buy new corals, or I can see that some corals become pale due to lack of nutrients or iodine.

I use the preset programs on P1(4 pcs) and P2 (2 pcs), 6 maxspect in total.

I would say u dont need any bacteria product - only thing u need to 'buy' before the end of startup phase is patience :-)

best of luck to u and yr tank, and thx for writing here :-)

Regards
Peder

Thanks for the detailed reply Peder. It is very helpful. And I would love to see some new pictures of your tank. Can you tell us about your dosing method, coral food and other products you might use.

I use Artemia and mysis for my LPS, furthermore I dose 2 products from Sangokai.

Nutrient Complete, which contains N,P and K
Furthermore I dose Nutricoral zx High Energy Demand, which I think contains Ammonium(because of the smell)

Now and then i dose aminoacid and iodine.

This is dosed by me, not via my computer - since the 'need' of this is based upon my knowledge of my corals - I know many people say im stupid now - but I simply dont trust hobbytestkit for this - i trus my own eyes more.

Furthermore I just downgraded my skimmer - to more 'normal' size.
The MEGA skimmer i had, simply made the water too clean.
The new Skimz SL253 is rated 2-3 times my system, and the old skimmer was rated to a system about 20-30.000 liter.

Hope this is helpfull

regards
Peder
