Hi Everyone,
The Board has been discussing some changes to some of the structure of the club and has come up with a plan that will, we believe, make things run a little smoother and more importantly, keep some of the politics out and put the fun back in. Lets face it, being a part of a club like this should be fun, it shouldn't feel like work.
With that said, we aren't going to have local "Trustees" per say, instead we would like to form a "Local Events Committee". While this may seem a big change, it was a unanimous decision by the current board. Their are several advantages to this. Even though the BOD will be smaller, it will increase communication between Board members and will make it much easier to get things done. It is also our hope that since their is not as much obligation to being on the Committee, that more members will participate. As you are all aware, all of these positions are voluntary, even so they can get somewhat stressful at times, hopefully this will take some of that away as well, again it should be fun not work. Of course, their is some work involved in this, the idea here is to delegate that out some. The Board will work on the getting speakers, setting up the frag auction etc, while the Local Events Committee can work on setting up some local activities.
The next thing is to look for some volunteers to be on the committee. The only real requirement is that you be a current member of the GIRS. As far as what is to be expected as a committee member, when the club plans an event in your area, we would like to count on you to help us out some in getting things setup. Other than that, we would ask that you work together as a team to set up some activities in the various areas a few times during the year. This could be a local tank tour, BBQ at someone's house, or whatever.
What we would like to find is at least one volunteer from Des Moines, Iowa City/Cedar Rapids, Waterloo and Davenport. If more than one member is interested in one area, that's ok as well.
I know their will be some questions regarding this change, feel free to ask any questions and myself or one of the other board members will get back to you.
