I had the time to go to my area meetings, I held the pizza party, I was at the tank tour, I was at the frag demo, and I will be at our meeting on saturday......Where were you for your area, if your going to point fingers lets point......I've got plenty to say

You beat me to it! We had local meetings in the w-loo area, did any other area??? I think Jason did a very good job as a local trustee and he will do an even better job as VP. I think our entire BOD is going to help this club get going back in the right direction.

Seriously I think we all need to take a step back and a deep breath and relax! This a club!!! We're supposed to get together and BS and have fun! Obviously the system didn't work last year and the BOD is trying to improve on that!

Your right last year was crap, mainly because no one stood up and did anything, IRONICALLY when someone does it's guys like you that throw a huge titty fit and cry and whine about everything. Wonder why nothing is getting done. Your ridiculing me at least I had the time to go to my area meetings, I held the pizza party, I was at the tank tour, I was at the frag demo, and I will be at our meeting on saturday......Where were you for your area, if your going to point fingers lets point......I've got plenty to say

Jason, pleae try to stay civil. I am trying to help facilitate a discussioin over the direction of this group, not stir the pot.

But since this has somehow became personal; Maybe what I do in our local area is not seen by you, but I am certainly active. I did help with carpooling to IC for the Paletta talk. I did take part in our local tank tour and BBQ. I did take part in IMAC, even invited the GIRS people to my suite to hang out since I had room for the large group to gather. I have pushed the organization with our LFS biding for discounts. I have been active in the frag sale (even when an orange montipora digi. brought more then my acanthastrea frags). I think I was a pretty active member considering I have only been involved for 6-7 months.

I am glad that you are able to be active in your local area, it is members that are active like yourself that will keep this group afloat.

I'm not ridiculing you, not even sure where you got that from. I was simply trying to voice my concern with an action of the BOD in a public forum to hopefully bring about some insightful conversation as to the future direction of a struggling reef society. Considering the failure of the past year, I thought that the BOD directors might enjoy the fact that a member was interested in where we were going.

I don't remember saying anything was stupid, if I did I apologize. It's not our intention to fling poo, or knee kick anything. We are just trying to learn from the past. The past few years the trustee positions and the main BOD have not been "up to par". Our goal is to change this, the commitee idea was not meant to exclude anyone. In the past years lask of communication has cause several problems, usually leading to decisions being made and them board members and trustees comming back weeks later and voiceing there dislikes to the decisions that were made. If a vote is needed on something major the thought is that if there are only 4 main board members this vote can be made and things can get done much faster. No one is stupid, and tempers do flare, it happens and I do apologize for mine. I've seen this club have 2 semi bad years back to back and the goal is to give it a good year with good member participation. The commitees will act just like a trustee, they will still communicate with the board, and there input will still be used. All this idea was trying to accomplish was a more efficent way of getting things done for the club.

the surest way to kill this club will be toget into a ****ing contest about rules, procedures, compring who does more and name calling.... man get over worked for a few months and miss a lot .....

If you were listening to your fellow trustees you would remember I did not take the trustee position last year willingly. There was no other takers. I knew I was spread too thin and tried to back out. I still communicated and helped the board when I could. If you recall 90% of the coordination that was attempted to save the club last year came from Me or Bob. You did great building your little club in your backyard, but overall the club failed. I

am asking in this thread that the blinders get lifted so the board takes the whole club into account. I helped to found this club, I want it to succeed. If everyone would trust the structure that was built before and just move forward and not worry about things like this, we could have a schedule already designed for next year.

I was aiming for Travis which isn't good either way you look at it, its not going to solve anything by flinging poo so I think all that jazz should stop (including myself). What happened is done and we can't fix it. We are working on a calendar right now for the upcomming year, it will get finished. I'm trying to get a few speakers to come visit, Mitch Carl is planning to come back and I'm trying to get Bruce Carlson (curator of the Georgia Aquarium). We are also considering a DIY meeting, posibly a calcium reactor, kalk reactor, skimmer...it still in the air. What we need is the support of the members, we NEED people at the meetings. And we need the positive attitudes that alot of you have shone. Billy for being a new member you have done alot and it's greatly appreciated...had a great time at IMAC BTW.....I have to smile everytime I see a stick of bam boo. If we had more outgoing members like you the club would be a great success, thats what we are hoping to rub off on all the members.

Sadly, this thread has turned into a crap slinging fest.

We have to be able to discuss our issues in this openforum with out emotion or prejudice, otherwise we are destined to failure.

I appreciate the fact that the BOD has the authority to do what they want according to the by laws. But I think they would do well to listen to the concerns of the members of the group and discuss our concers with us, not get defensive and then start to attack the membership.

As leaders of this organization you all owe it to us to consider our ideas and help alleviate our concerns as well as to get the organization united and headed in the same positive direction.

That is, after all, why you were elected.

Ah a much better response, I apologize also. Just get a little touchy when it comes to things I enjoy.

As I have said to Allen in PM and in a few messages here... The committee idea is good, but combining it with the trustee position is better. The small group communication issue you keep talking about is also key and would still be in effect as the Executives do handle 90% on their own. Only major decisions and event planning require the trustees participation.

Always wanted to quote myself...

Also, once the calendar is made you really will not have any question as to what is going on. The trustees previously were never in the loop or there was never a loop established. Once the calendar is done everyone involved knows what to expect and where you are headed and can help out and plan accordingly.

Look guys, what this all boils down to is you want to have a say from your area, right?

Get on the committee, if we get a several people from one area, we can put someone in charge, or you can pick, a chairperson. That chairperson could then be put in a board spot.

It is not the intent to push anyone out, but if you want to have local events, the BOD cant do it all for you. Get a local group together, maybe just 2 or 3 people. That way you can work on some local events, while the BOD works on the big stuff.

Allen

As to the calendar of events, we are working on it and have been for some time. Its just not quite ready for a public unveiling, a little patience here, this isnt all I have to do. I have three kids, a wife and a full time job. We'll get there, just hang tight for a bit.

Let me end this quickly...

Jan. Area Meetings
Feb. Mitch Carl
March Frag Auction
April Shed Aquarium and local tank tours in Des Moines
May Area Tank Tours in the other 3 places
June OFF
July OFF
August Big Name
September Area meeting and DIY presentation
October Frag Auction
November Area Meetings and Group Buy
December Presentation in Iowa City (Fragging, Tank Building, etc..)

What do we think?

Well I will say thats the hope of the calendar, LOL seems so new and forbidden to have a schedule. Once again to everyone in the poo slinging match I do apologize, and hope there have been no hard feelings. I will talk with Allen and the other board members and see what we can come up with for a new improved strategy. The problem we have always run into like Travis said is people get opted in as a trustee and most of the time they stretch themselves to thin. Our goal is to get things planned a good year in advance so the next BOD has a plan from the get go, we can't keep dumping last years crap on the new BOD. It's too hard to find speakers and make event plans in 2 months. It sucks beleive me......
