But to think that I just wanted a handout ****es me off. It is clear that he has all the friends he wants by the way he talks to new people. It is good to know who to avoid. I was only asking because other than what I posted I don't know much about the program, and thought this was a good place to ask for any other information. if you think it is a good idea cool, if you think it is a bad idea cool we can talk about it. Used to live in Rochester and it had a great reef community. (hi all) Generosity was never a problem. Now in Phoenix and same thing here. Often see pay it forward frags posted and have done so myself.
Usually works best when kept informal.

i dont have any issues with anyone anymore,but i think this whole thing went in the wrong direction. i dont know reefer but i hope to in the future. AS FOR TODDMH........he's a great guy to deal with and learn from....aslways welcomes you to his home....always has great stuff.......and im very honored to say even a friend. i have bought many corals from todd and i hope to again in the near future. as others such as carrdif,tmz,victor can,and many others(sorry if i forgot some names here ,i know i did). anyways....paying it forward would be a great idea..UNTIL.....you get one jerk that gets free stuff and ends the cycle.....and there WILL ALWAYS be THAT one person that ruins it. its very unfortunate. ive met a lot of great people on here,im glad to be on this forum

For starters you keep saying OP. All I can think of is Phil - Ocean Paradise. Please tell me you haven't coined his screen name to describe this kind of person. I would have to leave work I'd be laughing so hard.

Keeping the pay it forward informal is probably the best. I wish I could get my hands on everything everyone has here but I wouldn't just chop everything I've got to give to everyone else. I do however have one person that gets the first frag of corals I purchase and they have done the same. Recently I have added a second person.

If you don't have the time to get involved in the reef community then the easy gathering of corals is going to be limited for you. It's limited for me but my tank is still overflowing. Pay your debts first and you'll find those down the line will get you back.

Now... who has my todds torch... who has the head for me?

Im with todd i think the best way really is to get you name out there and do some networking. im really new to the salt side of the tanks. But IMO i found the best way to find things you need is to ask. i mentioned i was new to the hobby and people helped me out from the start....ive only ever been given somthing for free once or twice...but make sure you give back to the reefing community whenever possible. After ive built a connection with a few people they know if they give me somthing that i can drop off my side of the trade or cash when i can. My coral is all still very young and i havent been able to frag anything yet but i try to give out any extras like when my chaeto over grows dont sell it its fairly cheep to begin with someone can use it in their sump or make a fine treat from one of their fish.

a possible solution might be a meet and greet type things in your area. maybe not a full frag swap but have monthly or bi-monthly meeting for locals to just come chat and im sure even the first meet someone will help someone new, trades, sell equipment cheap to a fellow in need, ect. But again no offence to anyone here just my 0.02 and a possible alternative to this.

I want to weigh in on this here, and don't want to derail the new thread geared towards starting this. Something still doesn't sit right with me.

Todd might not have worded it in the most PC way, but he basically said that 1) a lot of this happens now among people that know each other and 2) how can you expect to propose something like this when no one knows who you are?

Then Todd (a stand up guy who has given things away to club members) gets chided for the tone of his response. Reefer Buddy puts up a new thread trying start the program, but I can't help wondering why he hasn't offered something up as a sign of good faith. Am I alone here?

This is a VERY good point....this most likely would have been met more warmly had folks known some background.
