Glass Cages Tanks

Hi Jim,
I was in the same boat on that size tank. I ended up going with SCAquariums and couldn't be happier. Great quality tank. Silicon work is top notch. Customer service is great! And the cost!!
Just my experience along with others if you get on the SCAquarium owner's thread and their facebook page. All happy customers with great feedback.

I recently had a custom 72x24x15 glass rimless made... I researched extensively and made the personal choice to avoid them.
I came across countless and exhausting threads in regards to this company... Lets face it; they have attractive pricing.
Anyways, after reading all the threads/post I came across, the negatives out weighed the positives. Especially in the warranty department.
I had put in estimates to every major custom tank manufacturer and had estimates come in from as low as $800 all the way up to $4,600.00
I was amazed at the variances in prices. (I didn't need a PVC bottom, stainless bracing or low iron glass on a tank of this dimension).
FWIW, after much deliberation I settled on Planet Aquariums in Texas and honestly have no regrets.
The only issue was it did not come with vinyl applied on the back pane like I requested.
Turns out it was my LFS that forgot to mention that part...

I appreciate the feedback. Seems you really only hear about the bad and not the good. I just might take my chances with them. I was looking at their 150g, 48 x 30 x24, which is a really neat size. The depth of 30" really would allow for some cool aquascaping and not to mention I'm not that tall so 24" height is more doable than the standard 30" height on the 150s. I can work with the sloppy silicone, just trim it back some if need be which seems to be the most common complaint.

I have had a 120 and 240 glass cages tanks,yeah silicon was a little sloppy but never had a problem with them.I had to break down the tanks to down size.I would not hesitate to buy another tank from them.All depends on what you prefer.

I have a 36"x24"x25" from them, going on almost 6yrs. I've had zero issues and mine looks just fine. Spoke on the phone with them a few different times and always answer any questions I had.
It's all 1/2" glass with top and bottom bracing, I personally think it's built like a tank. Even the overflow is 1/2" glass skinned by black acrylic.
I wouldn't hesitate to order another tank from them when the time comes.

If you got 8 years out of a 240 gallon you paid $879 for, I'd say it was definitely worth it.

Considering the life expectancy of aquariums is decades, I would not be at all happy with one that leaked at 8 years. I am sure there are people that will calculate the cost and time down to a dime, and say he saved money long term.
I would rather pay 3 times the price of that, and not have to worry on if I will get my moneys worth from a tank. Moneys worth being if it drops a couple hundred gallons of water in to my house.

If I paid 879.00 for a 240 and it started leaking after 8 years,I would be upset.But if I paid 3,000.00 for one and it did the same thing,I would be really upset.It doesn't matter who builds a tank,they all have the possibility of leaking.

No freakin way.
When you have 8 years into building a tank, growing coral and building up a happy community of fish, then to suddenly have to tear it down, in a semi panic. When you see the seam leaking, you have to ask yourself, is it going to have a catastrophic failure? Any minute now? Will it hold for a couple days, a week?
Gather up holding tanks, get extra equipment to house and maintain everything until a new tank can be bought/built.
New tank was about $2k in the same size.
You tell your spouse you can use all the old equipment. Well that was a lie.
You know some new pumps are going on that baby.
So in my case $3k later,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

Of course they all do. But I am sure you would find the higher end ones leak far less than the lower end ones. Why gamble with something like the tank, the most important piece of equipment.
