My acrylic is 1.5" thick. I use Mighty Magnets. I had Tunze Magnets previously but the Mighty Magnets are the best I've used thus far and they have all kinds of great pads. Even ones for removing coraline which actually work great too! They also have a scratch removal kit which I've been meaning to try. Might Magnet is top notch in my book. Best of all they are reachable and knowledgable with great customer service.
I have used these dish sponges in the past without issues. Cut one end, remove the foam pad and insert wet side of magnet. You can get these at most grocery stores for a couple of bucks.
For you mighty magnet users, it seems like the inner magnet is larger than the outer magnet. Do you like this and does it make it awkward when cleaning corners?
I absolutely love acrylic tanks because they're just so clear. On the flip side, I love sand bottoms and together, they equal a pain in the butt! This time around, I caved and went back to a glass tank and am glad I did.

I have no issues cleaning corners in my tank. In fact, it makes cleaning corners easier as it positions the magnet closer to the corner regardless of where the outer magnet is. With my tank being dry walled in from top to bottom, this magnet works great as the drywall along the bottom edge of my tank is above the bottom of the tank. The drywall along the top edge is below the level of the water so the magnet actually gets beyond what you can see on the inside of the tank. These magnets are also really powerful and even with my 1.5" acrylic, I can pull the outside magnet away from the glass to get rid of any gravel or coralline that may have found it's way in to the inner magnet (gravel or coraline will usually fall out when the magnets separate from the glass) and suck the magnet back even if the inside magnet is an inch away from the glass. As I said earlier, I love these Mighty Magnets. They are by far the best I've owned.
Acrylic is clearer and stronger. I have 2 big tanks and wish both were acrylic. Have had a seam burst on a glass tank once and am always fearful the one behind the couch is gonna bust out and the lion fish are gonna hurt somebody. JK.. If you've ever tried to move a big glass tank you will appreciate the acrylic for its weight difference. If you have to sell a big glass tank your gonna take a loss. Big acrylic tanks hold their value fairly well if they are made right in the first place. I do run bb so don't have to contend with sand scratches, but my glass tank has scratches and they can't be buffed out. the acrylic tank a headlight kit can take care of any external scratches and as noted above by several , internal scratches can be removed while tank is full.
