Glass Thickness

I'm planning to build another tank... it will be L72"xW36"xH26" in dimensions... will 1/2" thick glass enough to hold that volume of water?

the price of 3/4" and 1/2" thick glass is way way huge...

does laminating two sheets of 1/2" will be okay for the bottom part of the tank?

thanks guys!

first of all how much will you have invested in glass and matierals for this 300 gal tank ? they sell them for about $1500.00 they sell them for $1200.00 when there are sales .

if 3/4 it will cost me = $1350
if 1/2 it will cost me = $600 only...

I had a 180G made with 1/2" glass. I don't know if I could sleep well with a 275G tank made with half inch...certainly you would want good bricing to prevent bowing...

yeah you have a point there... ill put that in mind... thanks...

1/2 inch will be sufficient for the sides. However, I would consider springing for the 3/4" for the bottom. That's a large area for 1/2". Under pressure and point loading from rock, I would be concerned about a blowout.

No offense, but if your concerned about the cost of the glass get out why you still have a chance.

You will find that the tank is the cheapest part of your setup. :)

my dream tank will be built like that using starphire 1/2 " thick out around but 3/4 on the bottom. its 96x 36x 27 just like oldude tank same materials too!

though, some builders feel tempered 1/2" is stronger than 3/4"

glasscage built the tank with the dimension 96 x 31 ½ x 30 ½ for only 1800 for 3/4" thick tank but i am rather have one built made of 1/2" thick from local respectable manufacturer for a lot more.
