So here is the situation. Couple years ago I started finishing the basement and got about 80% done when the marriage started going down hill. So all worked stopped on it. Well almost a year after the divorce its time to get back to business. I got the house ;)

1st on the list, finish the basement and remodel the kitchen. Cabinets in the kitchen are water damaged very bad from, hmmm, lets call it the learning curve of reef tanking . Well if we are gonna remodel, time for the big tank to go in, it just makes sense. So here we are, kitchen project bidded including building the drywall stand with matching granite top for the stand.

Basement finishing has to be on hold, as plumping to the fish room is gonna take some removing draywall from the ceiling and also to run additional electric.

So here is the equipment list:
Tank: 96 X 37.5 X 30.5 3 side starfire glass Weight is only 150 pounds more than acrylic and price is much less. Getting a great price from Glasscages.com and can drive to check the quality of work prior to shipping. Very much still getting quotes on this and deciding on glass vs. acrylic.

SumpEcosystem 4822 Sump 60 pounds of Miricle Mud Used ecosystem in the past and had a lot of luck Ordered

Refugium My old Oceanic 75G tank will be filled with live rock and grow macro algae, pods, and snails, any other other critters that can be fed to DT.

Lighting 4X LED systems Leaning toward EcoTech XR30w

Water movement 2X ecotech MP60s plus my old Tunzes and controller

Controller Apex Aqua

Skimmer TBD still looking

Return pump Reeflo Hammerhead Gold

Chiller I have a 1/4 horse power chiller from my old tank hoping it still works and is enough with the LED lighting.

Water Tank 75 gallon plastic tank to hold salt water on constent mix

RO/DI Already have a Spectrapure

ATO not sure yet

Edit:

Calcium Reactor Old Korallin should work for some time until the load gets to much then a 2nd one will be added

Reactor One of those Bio reactors but still researching of they mix well with ecosystem.

Dosing Reef complete on a dosing pump

Pictures to follow of tank design and room layout.

Goal: Have tank up and running by Jan 1, 2013.

Heres to dreams coming true! Kitched tear out expected to start in next 2 weeks.

Well planning is key and you got that down pritty good, um as far as the set backs, every now and then ppl have to take a step back to move two steps forward. so here you are on the starting line so to speak lol....i see your lighting, total water movement, and sump/fuge is top notch, skimmer is gunna be the second biggest form of filtration other than natural bacteria, so this choice im sure youll nail too...im guessing this system is goin in the basement? if so, a chiller might not even be needed, but if it is, then the one you already have should be more then enough......an just throwing this out there. ppl like pics. so some before and after contrustion of even the basement and kitchen would be cool haha....soooo good luck!!!

DT will be on main floor almost directly above the steel I Beam and will be adding 2 more steel supports under the tank while drywall is out in basement.

Fish room will be in basement creating about 13-15 feat of vertical head and about 20 feet of horizontal head.

Just took some pictures just got to upload them and link them. Will do tonight

:bounce2:

Ceiling will have to come out to make room for more electric and plumbing. Lower ceiling will just be run straight over to the wall giving be tons of room.

Mixed reef

Sps
Lps
Mainly tangs
Some clowns
Months from planning that part lol

Skimmer
LFS recommends octopus but waiting on layout in sump to see if I go internal or external. Got lots of time before enough bio load is in the system to need the skimmer. Ecosystem only recommends you run it 12 hours a day under full load.

96 X 37.5 X 30.5 3 sided starfire and clear back, wanted smoked glass back but they don't carry smoked glass. 36 X 6 back center over flow with 7 holes drilled ordered 10/17/2012 4-5 weeks manufacturing time.

Went with Glasscages.com. LLC. It is the only tank manufacturer I could find that was anywhere close to St. Louis that was resonable and very good to talk to on the phone. If I have problem at least they are only 5 hours away in case I gotta :uzi: .

Shipped to terminal $<4,000 total!

Reeflo pump and 52 pounds of dry rock should be on the porch when I get home.

Ok so you order 52 pounds of dry rock... I expected 10 x 5 pound rocks. Really was hoping for 5 x 10 pound rocks... So the box comes
Today and ????

3 pieces. What! One has to be 25 pounds. I don't even think it will fit in my 75 gallon tank. So happy. Crazy big pieces, will look great in the DT. 2 pieces in 75 gallon tank cooking. 1 piece in tap water..

Ya ya pictures to come.

Ok skimmer discussion time. I am thinking of going with a :

Reef Octopus Diablo XS 350 Protein Skimmer

Anyone have one of these or a similar model made by Reef Octopus? Are you happy with it?

Feed back and comments would be greatly appreciated.

Quit ordering big tanks from Glasscages, I need them to focus on mine! (ordered 499g on 10-12-12, hopefully I get mine first :)
