Gluing your rock together

I have a question. Do you guys glue your live rock together or stack it freely when you put it into the tank? i thought about this last night and it makes me nervous to stack it freely. thoughts?

you can drill them with a masonry bit and use a fiberglass rod, like the ones used on driveway reflectors to hold them together. You can aslo use the Aquamend epoxy putty at Home Depot, it's green on the outside and white in the middle and comes in a clear plastic cylinder with a lid..

i never liked the look of the "fruit stand" style aquascape where the rock is all in a pile and the coral sits on it... personally, i scape my rock with a 5/8" masonry bit and 1/2" cpvc pipe... you NEVER have to worry about the towers falling over like this... in my opinion, less is better when scaping LR... but i also like alot of swimming room for the fish... if your not scaping huge heavy rock, plastic rods liek sohal said, or wooden dowels work well too... people think wood rots, but actually, the dowels soak in the water and expand to hold the rock tight together....

so you drill into the rock? intriguing idea.

I borrowed Serpentman's carbon fiber rod in the drilled rock idea and the strength is just incredible. Smaller holes to drill was a huge plus.

yea, just drill it with a drill bit and power drill... keep the bit and rock moist so it doestn overheat... the smaller the hole, the easier the rock is to drill... some rock is near undrillable though, depending on which pieces... i used marco rocks for my cube and they drill awesome... i heard the carbon fiber idea works well cause a small rod of that can hold alot of pressure... scaping in towers like this also helps with flow and helps prevent detritus build up since flow can get around the rock work easier...

I currently have my rocks stacked and zip-tied together. Possibly going back in the near future and putting come epoxy between them... If you do it right you can have all the ties hidden but yet if wanted you can cut them and rescape.

No not quickrete mine was stacked never was an issue

Wel, yes, actually Quickcrete. Serdar at Phishy business gave me the idea. His 400 Gal display that everyone loves, the back wall of it is made from Rock and Quickcrete.

I actually used Quickcrete and haven't had a problem at all with it. drilling I thought about doing but then you have to worry about where to drill so rock dont split so if inexperienced with drilling live rock I wouldnt do it. Not knowing what kind of live rock you have figi, tonga,or coral skeleton some can be fragile and wouldn't recommend even though some people have had success do so

I used a 3/8 Carbide drill and nylon coat hangers. cut the bottom and side off and you have nice saltwater safe flexible nylon rods
