Going All Out - 330+ Project!

Just ditch the sand and I'd personally give the plan an A+ :D
I know...this is causing me such distress. I'm sure I'll go back and forth about this several times yet....maybe I'll just talk with Bomber and he can push me back over the BB edge!

Yea he'll point you in the right direction. You're talking serious sps tank I would @ least ditch the fuge DSB. JMO.

Given any thought to ozone and/or UV?

I have teh same size tank and it's awesome. Few things to consider:

Tunze vs CL: 36" is wide, man. On hardcore SPS I think I'd go with 4 Tunze streams if going that route.

You will probably hear some people try and talk you out teh 400watters - I won't be one of them. :) But there is no decent 400w 10k bulb out there. 10k 400 watters are very yellow...even with the T5...Better choice would be the Hamilton or Phoenix 14k.

I would prob say 2x6100's and 2x6200's...

Thanks for all the tips! Comments:

Ozone/UV: Yes, I'll be putting both of those on the system. I overlooked that on my spec post above.

Lighting: I'm going to stick with 400w. I currently run Phoenix 14K on my 250w, and was concerned about the par. I guess with 400w, that won't be an issue.

Flow: I was thinking 4 streams, with maybe a wavebox too. I'm currently reading that thread I was pointed to above, so I'll know more later.

Sand: Ugh....this is gonna kill me!

Keep 'em coming! :)

If you are going to go with a Wavebox you will also need an Extension (an extra 450.00) as well...

Fuge is another place for detritus to settle. Go big on the UV and you won't need a fuge or carbon for that matter.

Hear the BLV 14k is nice. They also make a 10k that is supposedly not yellow at all.

Wavebox is killer. Mine seems a little loud still getting used to it I guess. Also, w/ the surface rising and falling a couple inches on either side your canopy has to come down low enough so that the surface isn't exposed. Makes for a little shorter viewing height. Food for thought.

Not necessarily. A one inch wave is still going to give you a fair amount of movement below the surface. Depends on what you want to get out of it.

Just a quick update (if anyone is still reading this!), the tank has been temporarily postponed due to funding being diverted to my other hobby/sport: Scuba. I went all out and bought a bunch of new equipment, so I'm scraping funds together for the tank plans now.
Hopefully, construction on the room/wall will start shortly.

I am still reading (and waiting)... I would like to get into Scuba Diving some time soon...

An Update!!! Woo Hoo!

An Update!!! Woo Hoo!

A quick update:
Resuming on the planning stage with all out force! Watching these other large tanks get going is driving me nuts!
Here is a quick pic of the tank, pretty basic at this point. The one edge is rounded since the front and the right side will be viewable:

Also, here's a pic of the table I put together. It has some of the research I've done on 200-400 gal tanks. I'm trying to see trends in what other people are using, and I figured I'd use the best/most common of what I see.
All of the tanks shown are SPS tanks, which is what I want. Along the top you'll says dates or names. The dates relate to TOTM, the name is who some belong to.

I got a quote on the tank from James at Envision Acrylics.
The dimensions for it (which aren't in concrete yet) are 72 x 36 x 30"H using all clear 3/4" cell cast acrylic. 24 x 6 x 12"H external overflow (3/4" black acrylic) with cover. He said it would be around $1900 plus the shipping.
Seems to be inline with other tanks that size. Any comments?

Same as mine. Same price I think too. :)

Well, out of all the custom tank builders I asked for quotes from, I only got 2 responses: James at Invision and today I got one from Tenecor.
When I got the quote, I had to read it 5 times just to make sure they had the right specs. Yup, it was correct, and the price was $4085.00. But, hey, that included the shipping... :eek2:

So your going to go with James and get a 600gal tank now :) Or you could get two for the price of one...

WHOA... I know Tenacor does good work, but that price diferencial is way to vast imo, not to go with James at Invision.

Or...get 2, like asnatlas said lol

Yeah, the price diff makes my choice obvious. So, James it is! Now I have to compile my equipment list and figure out my tank's flow. Then I'll finish the rough framing and start the plumbing. Tank won't be ordered until later this summer, since it won't be going in until this fall.
Pics of tank drawings (for flow discussion) to follow...
