Going All Out - 330+ Project!

Is that a size Tenecor usually has in stock? I don't think it is. That might be why the price is so high- custom size for them. I had the same problem. I wanted a 84x30x30 and when all was said and done it was going to cost me $1200 more than a 96x30x30 since it was not a "standard" size. At any rate- I'm sure you'll love the envision tank- I have seen a few of there tanks ad they do awesome work. They were my second choice only because I would have to pay for shipping where Tenecor is local for me. Be sure to post some pics as James usually sends you pics of the tank while it's being built if you ask him to. Good luck and I'll be following this one.

Yeah, the price diff makes my choice obvious. So, James it is! Now I have to compile my equipment list and figure out my tank's flow. Then I'll finish the rough framing and start the plumbing. Tank won't be ordered until later this summer, since it won't be going in until this fall.
Pics of tank drawings (for flow discussion) to follow...

Cool.
James it is! :)

Post your equipment list iterations for us ;)

Wow, I haven't posted on this thread in 5 months! Yikes! But, you'll be happy to know that the project is still on.

My tank dimensions keep changing, along with everything else. I definately want a wider tank (30"-36") and a deeper tank (30") to open up more aquascaping possibilities.

Also, I keep going back and forth with the flow issue (no pun intended). I read the large tank section every day, and I see: CL's are the best, CL's suck....etc...etc...etc. I guess I'm really stuck on going with a CL or just some Vortech/Tunze streams. Both have their +/- which makes the decision that much harder.

Maybe it would help if I told you this: My goal is to keep SPS (with a few other stuff) and make it very natural looking. I want to keep it as clean (ie: No powerheads floating around in there) as possible.

UGH...this is driving me nuts! I want my big tank NOW!

Bumpin: It was for clear. I want clear so I can see behind the rockwork. I'm going to be using PVC to build up the structures, so I want to see what's going on "behind the scenes". I will put a second piece of acrylic on the back that is black.

Thanks for the words of encouragement everyone. Can anyone offer any suggestions on my thoughts of CL vs Streams/Vortechs?

Ok...I've finally made some decisions! The final tank dimensions are going to be 72x30"x30". It will have an external overflow on the back, centered, with dimensions of 24"long by 12"tall by 6"deep. The only thing that would force a change in tank dimensions would be the manufacturer advising that 30" is "special"....forcing me to go with a smaller height.

Due to the 30" height, I've also decided on my primary lighting: 400w 20K. Nuff said!

More to come!
(of course, your input is always appreciated)

Here's a couple of pics to show the layout of the tank. If I go glass, the front and right side will be low-iron. Now I'm figuring out what I want to do about flow...

Hey there!

It is nice to see that you are back at this...actually, I am in the process of putting together my 300gal system, and have been having a tough time deciding who to go with to build my tank, as well. I will be going with Starphire glass on 3 sides, and have enjoyed following along. Keep us posted!! I am learning while you go!! LOL!

Thanks, Thor! :)

The equipment list is starting to grow (and change). Here's what I've got so far:

Lighting: I'll be using 3 400w Lumenarc III reflectors, powered by Advance Magnetic M59 ballasts (HelloLights). Bulbs will be 20K XM's. There will be supplemental lighting, still working on that....

Flow: My 2 Tunze streams from my 125 will be going into the new tank. Also, my current return pump (a Reeflo) will be used for the return on the new tank. Finally, I'm 90% sure that I'll be putting a Tunze Wavebox in. I'm not concerned about the "motion sickness" that some complain about, since the tank will be framed in the wall, and the water line won't be visible.

That's it for now...more to come!

Some more pictures and equipment stuff.

As far as equip, I'm planning on UV and Ozone. Still deciding on the skimmer. Tank is going to have a SB, but not a DSB. Maybe 1~3". My current tank is Starboard, and I really miss my sand. Also, I'm going to be using my current LR to seed a bunch of base rock. The rock will be held up by PVC, to help with circulation and minimize the amount of rock needed (it will still be a ton of rock). Of course I'll have the requisite RO/DI (I'm going to have to upgrade), salt mixing bins, FW supply bin, sump, frag area, quarantine tanks, etc....

These pics show the layout in my basement for the rooms. The pics are NOT to scale. They are just to give you an idea of the layout. The tank will be viewable on 2 sides. The viewing area will have a couch, table, etc. The equip room will have it's own sink and water, which should make maint. a breeze. The room will also have a ventilation system to vent the room air straight outside. There will be a subpanel in the room for all of the electrical needs.

Very slick , looks like it will be a nice set up.

Thanks! I'm hoping it will be.

Anything that strikes anyone as being way out in left field? I figure that the slot for the overflow is going to be 1.5" deep, so it can accomidate the wave from the wavemaker.

What will you be using for a sump? I don't think I saw that mentioned.
My current system uses the large rubbermaid tanks, but I think I might build a custom sump to fit in the equipment room. I plan on having macro in the sump, along with sand and some inverts. The sump will also hold the heaters, skimmer, connections for UV, Ozone, Calcium reactor, etc....trying to make it as neat as possible, with alot of access for cleaning, maint., water changes.

Thanks everyone!

I'm currently watching a tank for sale on eBay. It's a used acrylic with exactly the dimensions I want (Ok, it's 1 inch off). It's a year old, with some minor scratches. We'll see....
