Going away for a few days

Hey Everyone,

I am going away on a break from school for 3 days, and I won't be able to feed my ocellaris clown. It's obviously not worth breaking down the tank for 3 days. If I feed him a healthy amount of mysis shrimp before I leave today, do you guys think he'll be alright until Sunday evening? I don't have any automatic feeder, nor can I invest in one

I wouldn't worry about not feeding it for 3 days.

The only concern I would have (( and this depends on the size of the tank, and how it is set up )) would be evaporation.

That shouldn't be a problem. I've gone 5 days without feeding, but I did feed them 2-3 times the normal amount the day before leaving.

Will you not be eating while your gone?
I know a clown can survive a few days w/o food, but starving my clowns is not an option. Feeders can be had for $20 and cheaper on Ebay and the RC FS forum. Invest in one, as it will save you hassle the next time you leave for a few days.

They will be totally fine. Mine (caps) even don't break a cycle laying eggs when they skip meals.

Their is a fish store im Phoenix, Az. which is closed Sun.& Mon. & I doubt they come in & feed.

I don't worry a bit unless I am leaving for more that 4 days. When I went to Fiji last month I had a friend feed them 3 times in 8 days. Before I was having someone come by once a day and every time I did that the tanks were over fed. This was the only time I haven't had an issue with overfeeding and the fish were fine. Everything I've read says that there isn't much to worry about if the duration is less than 1 week.

I need to add 1 more coment. I'm a fish breeder & I ship fish. 48 hours before I ship I stop feeding them. I do not add any chemicals to the water, only oxygen. And my fish don't die.

i would not worry about it, unless i am leaving for more than 2 wks i don't have anyone come in and feed them.

3 days is not bad at all..in fact i usually feed a large variety every 2-3 days..everything has always been fat and healthy..good way to keep down on nutrients as well IMO-drew

I understand that a few days is 'possible', but if you get a fish conditioned to feedings at a certain time every day why apply the extra stress. Last christmas I took a tomato home for a guy. It was a 10 hour drive and the next day no answer on the phone. The poor fish swan in a bucket with a heater and bubbler for the whole weekend until Monday night when i reached the guy. During this time the clown had no food. I guess I'm a loner with not wanting to starve fish for nutrient reducation or vacation sake. JMHO....
